✦ AI summary

Danse Macabre 4 draws players in with an engaging murder mystery set in the figure skating world and the series' signature art style, though some note the graphics appear softer compared to other Big Fish games. The experience is hampered by inconsistent difficulty, with hidden object scenes that drag on with cluttered, similar-looking items contrasting against overly simple puzzles, and some players find the story less compelling than previous entries in the series.
Short version: 71%
Danse Macabre 4 features jaw-dropping art and an exciting murder mystery that brings us to the world of figure skaters and love drama. As a game though, it is both effortlessly easy and annoyingly tricky.
Long version:
Danse Macabre 4: Thin Ice has a strange duality. From a certain aspect, it is easy as the chapters are short and compact, the adventure segments are fair, and the puzzles are varied. However, the hidden object scenes can be annoying with their similar-looking items, cluttered space, and their tendency to use several lists per screen. They are entertainingly challenging yet drag on uncomfortably long. As usual for this series, we come here for the story. We investigate a new art-related murder, namely, the death of several people associated with a famous figure skater. As we progress, the mystery deepens and the body pile increases, giving us a sense of urgency few HOGs can bring. Sure, this is still a HOG and limited by its genre, but as far as casual crimes mysteries go, Thin Ice will be among the more memorable and high-quality ones. It is just the bonus that as an Eipix product, it also has plenty of content to make up for i…

The images are blurry compared to the Dark City series and other games from Big Fish. Maybe 2018 graphics technology lags behind the newer games from 2021? If this was my first Big Fish HOG game, I would be happy with the graphics but because I've played several, this one isn't as crisp & clear. I think my expectations were much higher since I love the wintery theme of the game and have been so happy with previous Big Fish HOG games I've played. As it stands, I think I'm about halfway through and it's "just okay". Some scenes are tricky to find out what to do because you don't know what you're looking at. Puzzles are waaay too easy. The story is alright, but not as captivating as some of their other games.
