About Dark Hunting Ground

Dark Hunting Ground

A minimalist pixel-action RPG built around loot and power.

As a new member of the Hunter's Association, you'll hunt monsters and face the creeping threat of the Void. Grow stronger with every battle—gathering loot, leveling up, and forging your build—until you're ready to confront the source of the corruption itself.

Straight to the Point

No bloated story. No filler. Just clean, streamlined combat and build-focused progression.

Deep Builds, Minimalist Design

Master complex, multi-layered builds where synergy is everything. Smart combinations and dimensional layering are key to becoming a true hunter.

For $6.50 it's fine, but the game hits a major bottleneck of boring grind once you get to Abyss Stars. I really enjoyed the theorycrafting in the first 50 levels of advancement. New relics and slates created new opportunities to improve your build. Eventually that all comes crashing to a halt when you hit level 50. After, you start getting these skull points that you cannot reallocate, so if you're like me and assumed they made permanent changes to your class and not just unlocked new features you then have to spend other skill points on, you make considerable early game mistakes to point allocation. Most of the points put into these features feel pointless anyway. You go from really solid passive skill trees to these things that make your shops mildly better... Woo... The repetitious grind of mobs to bosses to the chaotic boss gets very repetitive after you stop unlocking useful relics and slates. Then you have to farm Abyss Stars, which are rare drops during mob farming. Apparently there's one more new farming system after this and I can only imagine how tedious that one is. I like the Abyss Star rooms, too. They are harder and the chests at the end feel much more rewarding…

Leaving a review early on with my initial impressions. As a fan of PoE and ARPGs this game blends both PoE and roguelites perfectly. I see my self investing hours into this game and I can see that with not even a hour into the game yet. I'll update this review once I put in more time.
