what to say, it is what it is

Just finished playing this over on my Youtube (link at end of review for anyone wanting to see a gameplay sample before buying). Here are some thoughts... Debris is a short game (I beat it in about 3 hours) where you play as a diver trapped in an undersea cave system beneath the Arctic after something goes disastrously wrong. The game is about exploring the dark cave system to find your way out, evading different types of monstrous marine predators whilst trying to unravel the truth of what happened. Thus, it does have an element of horror to it - if you're thalassophobic or claustrophobic, then this one's probably going to get your skin crawling no problem. You have one basic resource you need to conserve - power. Fortunately, you have a handy squid drone that can harvest energy from strange nodules on the seabed, found in various areas of the cave system. Then you get two tools - flares and harpoons, which you can use defensively at the cost of small amounts of power. Overall, I enjoyed Debris for what it was. Furthermore, upon getting to the end it became quickly apparent that the game has a lot of secrets that I never encountered, in an effort to encourage replayabilit…

this game is HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD also i have claustrophobia and thalassophobia if you have claustrophobia or thalassophobia, both, or a fear of being trapped under ice - you will hate this game but you should torture yourself and play it, because it's great.

Debris was definitely a unique experience and is a game that is centered around the concept of an mental illness known as psychosis. Your experiences in the game and decisions will determine what kind of Delusions your player character, Ryan, ends up having, and it really makes you question what the true story of the game is as well as your partners motives leagues under the sea. It is very atmospheric but is better suited for console as the PC graphics differ DRASTICALLY, and the game is much less visual pleasing on a desktop. The in-game purposeful bugs with your equipment can also be annoying and feel more like actual bugs than intended features and that combined with your Squid R.O.V lifelines clunky AI can lead to some frustrating experiences. The fish AI also isn't great, and nothing feels very alive, but nonetheless it's still an interesting concept and made more for advocation of psychosis than anything. Rating: 6/10 - Interesting concept and cool deep sea conspiracies, but partially confusing and very clunky

Both my boyfriend and I bought this to play together - but every time we attempt to host a game there is no play button... just cancel. After digging around I found a few other threads speaking about this with no answers really on why - one was a developer responding saying he was trying to fix it? I don't know - but this doesn't seem to work coop. Also - it appears to be a controller ONLY game. KBM didn't seem to allow movement in single player. Not sure I even want to play it solo...

A fantastic Experience and story. As a game it's okay, but I still loved every minute of it. Play with a friend and enjoy a good 4-6 hours of entertainment.
