About Defend The Highlands

✦ AI summary

Lead Alfredo and his tartan-clad warriors to defend Scotland with absurd weaponry like haggis catapults and porridge cannons while managing your porridge supply in this hilarious blend of tower defense and real-time strategy. What sets it apart is the need to actively man your towers with recruited Scotsmen, manage oat farms for resources, and command legendary heroes like William Wallace across 20 story levels and custom skirmish matches.

Defend the Highlands combines the genres of Tower Defence, Real Time Strategy, and Scotland. The player will have to build defences, recruit Scotsmen and manage their porridge stockpile as they fight off the English invasion of Scotland.

The player will control a band of Scotsmen, led by the short, hairy and nationalistic pub owner Alfredo. Making use of traditional Scottish weaponry, such as golf clubs and haggis catapults, the band of Scotsmen must defend locations around Scotland, Wales and England, as they defend their homeland, and then take the fight to the enemy.
 • Fight wacky enemies: Welshmen who ride sheep into battle, English teapot hurlers, Irish potato farmers, and many more.
 • Build crazy defensive structures including porridge cannons, turnip turrets and cheese wheel stations.
 • Building defenses is only half the equation. Unlike ordinary tower defense games, you will also have to man your towers with Scotsmen.
 • Recruit Scotsmen to your cause by playing bagpipes - but be sure to keep your bagpipe players defended.
 • Capture and hold oat farms to keep your porridge stockpile full.
 • Command powerful hero characters, from the humble pub owner Alfredo, to the great William Wallace himself.
 • Earn points and upgrade your Scotsmen and defensive structures.
 • Fight the enemy through a 20 level story mode, or play custom matches in skirmish mode.

A good Tower Defense game. 10/10 And of course...SCOTLAND FOREVER!

Defend The Highlands is a fun and quirky mix of tower defense and light strategy, with humorous ideas like haggis catapults giving it real charm. The gameplay is engaging, but the dated graphics and short campaign hold it back. Overall, it’s an enjoyable but brief experience.

Definitely recommended despite no' bein' a polished product graphics an' UX-wise. The campaign wis well built wi' a calculated increase in difficulty an' new variables tae keep the game engagin' while introducin' new enemies an' upgradin' their attack potential as ye progress through the levels. Ah even had tae replay a couple o' missions tae get mair upgrade points an' gie it anither go, especially wi' the Buckingham Palace level, so Ah'd say the campaign difficulty wis spot-on.
A quick non-review-related word: That English enemy unit that lobs tea-pots at ye an' causes splash damage is such a pain in the arse, ♥♥♥♥ that guy.

Crashes or bugs
Ah luckily havnae experienced too many crashes, but there are some incidents o' weird behaviour:

The units cannae reach a defence machine ye placed a bit near the water or another machine, even though there's a clear visible path.
There wis a thing that happens efter ye've already placed a number o' defence machines, where if ye pick a new yin tae build, it wid immediately build it where the mouse wis pointin', instead o' lettin' ye choose a place. This happened consistently, an' Ah…
