What Steam players say

Players praise Derpy Conga's charming aesthetics, clever puzzle design, and polished presentation, but report significant frustration with its co-op implementation, which suffers from poor camera controls, unequal player agency, sluggish controls, and numerous bugs including crashes and physics glitches. While single-player appears to work reasonably well for some, the co-op experience is widely described as frustrating and nearly unplayable, with additional complaints about missing checkpoints and broken drop-out functionality.
Bought this game to play co-op with my partner. Unfortunately the behaviour of the camera and sluggish spongy controls make this very difficult to play. Additionally, in co-op the 2nd player has much less agency than the 1st. While the first player is highlighted in yellow, the second player has no highlight; the camera moves around wildly but generally only follows the first player, and the 2nd player mostly just gets dragged along in the conga line for the ride. That's a great shame because the game is very pretty, well-animated with nice storytelling and great user interface polish. Other notes: there are no checkpoints so you can't save during a level. Drop-out for co-op does not work correctly. The game will still assume there is two players even when the 2nd controller is completely disconnected. You need to restart the game to fix this. As a dev I can clearly see the labour of love poured into this game, but it's just way too frustrating to be enjoyable in either solo or co-op, so I can't recommend it at this time :(9 found this helpful
Derpy Conga is a cheerful, physics-driven puzzle platformer developed and published by Giant Door that builds its entire identity around one wonderfully silly idea: saving a planet by holding hands. You control a small alien explorer whose mission is to rescue scattered companions and guide them safely through a series of imaginative environments, all while forming an ever-growing conga line of friends. What begins as a simple act of movement quickly evolves into a balancing act between momentum, spacing, and patience, as each new character adds weight, swing, and unpredictability to the chain behind you. The game wears its humor proudly, but beneath the playful presentation lies a thoughtful exploration of cooperation, responsibility, and the chaos that naturally arises when many individuals try to move as one. The central conga mechanic defines nearly every aspect of gameplay. Each rescued alien automatically joins the line, trailing behind you and responding to physics in a way that feels both endearing and unruly. Turning corners too sharply can cause the line to whip outward, mistimed jumps can leave friends dangling over ledges, and narrow pathways demand careful pacing to a…3 found this helpful
Complete bugfest from minute one. When the game starts, you have no option between single player / co-op. When you have two controllers connected, you are playing co-op. Period. Don't argue. So in co-op, the camera starts in split screen. While the right character is fine, the left one is rendered in the center of the whole screen, being cut in half by the split screen so you only see its left side. What a mess. This is luckily fixed once you grab hands for the first time and the camera merges. After the first cutscene, we somehow ended up completely derped inside of a texture, could not see anything, could not move anywhere and the camera was derping around madly. This is how the game got its name I assume. So after restarting the game and being forced to see the unskippable intro again, we were (un)lucky to explore further. This time after the cutscene, the camera just completely forgot that there is a second player as if trying to tell you that they are dragging you down and who needs the other creature anyway. But I value my friends so we grabbed hands and all was well for about a minute or so. We grabbed some more creatures, blew up some cannon, fell into the water, agreed…3 found this helpful
Very clunky. You run around with many guys holding hands and they keep getting stuck or falling down, pulling you with them. Couldn't get pass a place where you had to move a stone to draw a specific symbol and everytime i give command that enables me to move the stone, the "friends" with me start running on their own, ruining the image before I get a chance to even start drawing. Had a bug where I couldn't pick up any companions and I was required to pick up 5 to pass a gate leading forward. Luckily the bug also enabled me to jump half the map so I could just jump over that gate. Finally, just want to point out I'm disappointed I stopped playing it too soon, want to give it another chance in the future. Bug could be fixed by restarting the game and maybe gameplay issues I can still work around with
The controls are absolutely abysmal in co-op mode to the point of being unplayable. The existence of positive reviews leads me to believe that singleplayer works okay, but we wanted to play it in co-op and it has been a frustrating mess. If you are looking for a couch co-op game, keep looking, because this one isn't it!
Very cute puzzler with beautifully designed characters and maps. Puzzles are perfect for a casual game, they vary in difficulty from easy to medium. I believe I am only about 1/3 of the way through right now, so I would assume total play time would be around 9 hours. I've enjoyed it a lot so far, and haven't even tried the co-op yet. Developers have also been good at communicating on their discord and quick to fix any bugs (which are pretty much non-existent). I think this game has lots of potential, and could have great replayability in the future with new content.
