About Dissimilar

Amelia expected her evening to be perfectly ordinary. What she did not expect was for her best friend to hack her car and bring her against her will to the Haven, the ancient castle her family used to holiday in when she was a child.Far for being a sentimental visit, this improbable return to the place of her childhood finds Amelia forced to take part in a game she knows nothing about: not the how, not the who, and certainly not the why... And this game just might uncover secrets her family would have rather left hidden.

The Haven is yours to roam freely and in any order you want. Search through its handcrafted rooms, find secret passages and open forbidden doors. Uncover the castle's history and that of Amelia's family on this larger-than-life, intricate playing board.Your observation skills and a keen sense of curiosity will be the keys to truly know the Haven and uncover every last of its secrets.

Create your own strategies, organise your team, position your fighters wisely and anticipate enemy patterns in exciting tactical battles where every choice matters. Each enemy has a unique behaviour, and learning them is the key to mastering this unique battle system at the crossroad between puzzle games and RPGs.Defeat is not the end: explore other paths, gather your strength and establish new strategies with a myriad unique fighters and skills.

Delve into a piece of speculative fiction that questions technology, ethics, and the weight of unspoken family trauma. Investigate both the present and childhood memories to find out the truth between Amelia's kidnapping, and the true reasons behind the mysterious game she finds herself playing.

This entirely hand-drawn world comes alive to a soundtrack that blends epic orchestra and synth music, creating a unique atmosphere where ancient history meets futuristic technology.

Very engaging story, great art and sound design. The castle you explore feels large and ominous. The combat is a puzzley affair with deterministic enemies, though I do wish instead of redoing fights you could just "take your best score" more or less, since the only thing that carries between fights is your Plasma level. Mostly I'm just very engaged with the atmosphere and wanting to see where the plot is going. It's about mysteries and AIs, and what's real or fake, and who knows what you can even trust in this game. E: Finished game now. Absolutely phenomonal. Follows through on its themes and story beats extremely thoroughly, both mentally and emotionally engaging. The combat encounters remain interesting and fun throughout as well, though some of the harder bosses do feel a bit trial and error at times.

Dissimilar is a great story-heavy adventure game with puzzle-like tactical encounters. In combat, the protagonist primarily serves a support role and she can print robot allies on certain spaces. You can only have up to 3 units (plus the protagonist) in play at a time and you cannot have multiple copies of the same unit at the same time. If an ally dies, you can reprint them (without any buffs/debuffs they may have had before death) or print an entirely different unit instead, though usually at the cost of some of the protagonist's limited health. Health is only restored at certain terminals, which also reset every encounter, and you sometimes need to use health to open doors, so battles heavily revolve around preventing the protagonist from taking hits from enemies while also winning without using too much health resummoning units. Dissimilar also gives you plenty of tools to support a wide variety of playstyles, including several creative in-universe options which can break the combat system in half for players who prefer to focus on the story and exploration elements. Like many stories about robots and AI, Dissimilar explores themes revolving around the nature of humanity and …

I only scraped the surface of the mystery but the presentation was quite nice. I had to check and was very happy to find that the game is claimed to be fully hand drawn. The style is very appealing and holds a sort of melancholy to it. The story set in the future supplies some interesting tech concepts and ideas of what a future might hold. I didn't make it to any battles but from the trailer they look to be interesting. Very interested in hopping back into this one. My only "negative" is that during some scenes there is text over just a black screen and with all this great art I think it would benefit to put that text over an image of some sort. I recommend this if you are feeling melancholy and would like some mystery.

I can say that Dissimilar was a fun game with interesting mechanics that I really enjoyed; the story is nice, and the battles have a certain difficulty. The art style is amazing, and the music is very enjoyable to listen to.
