About Dosa Divas

Outerloop Games delivers Dosa Divas - a spicy narrative turn-based RPG. After years apart, sisters Samara and Amani journey with their ancient spirit-mech on a mission to defeat a rotten fast food empire and reconnect communities with their traditions. Platform through vibrant villages, battle corporate goons, reconcile with loved ones, and eat one last meal together before saying goodbye.

TASTE VICTORY

Engage in a flavorful turn-based combat system where every attack packs some heat, especially when you time it right. Hitting the action button as the hit lands amplifies your attack damage and strengthens your blocks against enemy attacks.  Use boost points at the start of your turn to multiply damage on attacks and skills. Each character harnesses their Spirit Power to use a unique set of class-based abilities associated with one of five flavor profiles. Match enemy flavor cravings to break down their defenses and leave them stuffed. With each round, build up your Ultimate meter to use special group ultimates and serve up some devastating damage.

MECH-SPLORATION

Traverse unique villages in a customizable and upgradable ancient spirit-mech named Goddess. Double-jump, drill, and grapple your way through the world to discover local ingredients, hidden paths, memories, and new friends.

ORDER UP

Cook up made-to-order food to wake them from a processed food-induced haze using the expressive cooking system. Forage, fish, and barter to collect ingredients and fire up orders for hungry villagers. Delivering delicious, hearty meals reconnects communities with their culture, history, and shared memories and increases your reputation. Developing a strong reputation comes with major perks and progression.

FIST FOOD

Fuel yourself in battle by having a quick bite to eat. Leverage the effects of ingredients to adjust recipes and create extra fragrant dishes that restore health, enhance damage, fortify defense, and replenish your Spirit Power.

MECH IT YOUR OWN

Serve up looks by customizing your spirit-mech, Goddess. Mix and match your Goddess’ body, arms, and legs. Create your own spicy style with custom wraps and accessories.

A great story driven game with some fun fighting and cooking mechanics. A lovely story of family and forgiveness. I also learned what a dosa was because of this game. Learning is good no matter what anyone else tells you.

The themes and art are Dosa Divas strongest points. If you enjoy stories about family, community and food this game's narrative will resonate with you. If those themes do not sound interesting then sadly there is not a lot here for you. The gameplay is very simple and will quickly feel repetitive. The only enemy variety is cosmetic and almost no player agency in how you approach combat. For those seeking a game with party customization and skill management there are none of those elements here. The game being relatively short and able to be beaten in 2-4 play sessions makes the simple gameplay bearable. For a casual RPG I enjoyed myself and emotional tone of the game resonated with me. I recommend this game if you are looking for something casual to serve as a palette cleanser between games. Ultimately your enjoyment of this game will be determined by your expectations.

A beautiful story full of fun cooking gameplay

an excellent entry in the Outerloop portfolio. even highly stylized, the food feels rich, like I can smell and taste it through the screen. turn based combat and skills are fun to master, though the timing on blocks felt like a struggle sometimes. (skill issue?) loved the voice acting and truly wish it was incorporated more thoroughly in sections. cried at the end.

tl;dr - it's got its rough corners but if the demo catches you its worth playing. --- Dosa Divas rides on the strength of its personality. The divas/mechs add a lot to the game (the animations are so fun.) And the characters are well-written. Arno was a particular stand out for me, but I also loved-to-hate Samara, Lena, and Amani's parents. Moment-to-moment the gameplay is fun enough -- JRPG-lite mechanics ala Paper Mario which I often enjoyed. The boss battles were a great time that didn't require tons of strategy but just enough thinking to keep me invested and engaged. But the connective tissue between those moments felt a bit underwhelming. I think the cooking minigames had good intentions but felt kind of empty. And between the little JRPG battles it was mostly going back and forth across the levels collecting the ingredients and cooking. So overall I was happy to get done with those segments as fast as possible. Some of the narrative made an impression with how heavy it got but also at times wandered into sappy territory. Overall I enjoyed it and am glad to have played it.

Very charming game, and you can tell they put a lot of heart into it narratively and thematically in the short play time!
