Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe

This is a very "thumb in the middle" type game for me, but I am using a thumb down because of how positive the rest of the ratings are. The art, animation, characters, and world building are all really good. However, I found the gameplay loop to be very, very mediocre. You go out and kill a buncha monsters, gather the ingredients they drop when they die, then throw it all in a pot and play a match-3 style game to rack up points. All of this is timed, and idk, I think I was expecting more of a strategy game. [b]There is clearly a ton of love put into this game[/b], and I expected a more interesting gameplay loop. In reality, you just need to go fast and make sure you kill the right monsters (you have limited inventory space, so you just focus on the ingredients you need). If you want Candy Crush with a bit of (very simple) hack-n-slash and a plot, you'll probably like this. If you want to have something with more interesting gameplay loops and strategy, go elsewhere. [spoiler][i]That said, if the devs made a VN or manga adaptation of the game, I'd 100% be down to check that out. Or, hell, an indie trpg based off BCB would be dope af.[/i][/spoiler]

[b] Cooking monsters is a nice surprise. [/b] A simple but enjoyable game. The core gameplay is hunting monsters and then cooking them in a way that the judges will like. The hunting part is a rather simple combat section, but you have to hunt those monsters that drop the ingredients you want to use in your dishes. Cooking part is also simple at first, but it can become challenging when you're competing against other characters. It's like [u] Tetris + Candy Crush[/u], and it doesn't get boring because the game keeps adding new elements. The story is again rather simple, but the characters are likeable and the dialogues are quite interesting. The game is also fully voiced, the music is pleasant, and the graphics are pretty nice too. [i] * This review only covers the single-player mode, which is surprisingly good. I didn't expect that from this type of game. [/i]

My only complaints with the game is that I wish there was a little more of it, and that the "Executive Chef" achievment is kinda dumb

Very fun fusion of 2d action side scroller and match 3 design with a very cozy and fun theme around cooking. I very much enjoy this game and expect to come back when I want a chill game.

9/10 storys wholesome and interesting the couch coop is fun and the achievements are mostly obtainable if you just play the game and use practice mode
