Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God

want to like this game, but i was going through a dungeon (im only an hour into the game) and got error: Malloc(some number), Out of memory game is leaking memory. that this still hasnt been fixed after 7 years is dreadful.

Cute and charming mystery dungeon game. Runs fine on the steam deck despite having an "unsupported" classification, haven't encountered any crashes or had any issues, myself.

This game crashes frequently which, being a roguelite, makes it basically unplayable. It seems like some people get lucky and never see crashes, whereas others like me have it crash a lot. Not that I was really having fun with the game anyway. This game's dungeons are packed with unfair random events like curses that lock you into garbage equipment or traps that straight-up destroy your entire inventory. Indeed, the game takes great glee in being unfair. 90% of the items you find have descriptions joking about how don't know what it does, and the game just expects you to use trial and error to figure it out in a game where death means hours of progress lost. Some people enjoy unfair games like this, but it ain't for me. I only checked this game out because of its tenuous connection to the Puyo Puyo RPG series "Madou Monogatari." And indeed, some of the characters in this game are amusing parodies of the classic Puyo cast. But watching Compile's successor parody its predecessor is hardly motivation enough for me to endure this game's painful Russian roulette.

This game is extremely underrated! The parodied characters (Rulue = Cliora, Gigadis = Satan, etc) are a lot closer to their counterparts' original personalities than they are in the modern Puyo games, which is kinda funny!! Unfortunate that Compile's characters couldn't make an appearance, but I think what we got is more than serviceable. The writing is some of my favorite out of all the Compile Heart games I've played so far, it's charming, hilarious, and if you look past the setting and characters being different, it definitely pays homage to the original Madou Monogatari series when it can. The gameplay, while not as complex as other mystery dungeon games like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and void* tRrLM, is still pretty fun. A lot of mechanics aren't explained very well (or at all!), but once you understand them they're fun to play around with. I especially enjoyed combining items with the Giant Kuu, that, as well the ID scrolls, makes the gameplay feel a lot more personable and customizable despite how otherwise RNG-based it is. I love this game, very fond memories of it, thinking of booting it up again.
