About Dot's Home
DOT’S HOME is a single-player, 2D, narrative-driven video game that follows a young Black woman in Detroit living in her grandmother’s beloved home, as she travels through time to relive key moments in her family’s history where race, place, and home collide in difficult choices.
As an interactive experience, DOT’S HOME allows players to see the harmful systems that dictate our relationship to race and place, through the eyes of those that are most impacted. By inserting the player into scenarios where they have to make choices about how and where to live in the midst of redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, we ask a fundamental question: “How did your family end up where they are today, and how much choice did they really have in that journey?”
DOT’S HOME is a production of the Rise-Home Stories project: a creative collaboration between multimedia storytellers and housing and land justice advocates who have come together over the course of three years, to reimagine the past, present, and future of our communities by transforming the stories we tell about them.

This is a very sweet story-based game. The gameplay itself is very minimal (you just have to click a lot) but that gameplay serves the actual purpose: To tell a story of Black history and how the "American Dream" looks from the perspective of a Black family. It took me just under two hours to get to the end and there are four choices that I remember. Each choice represents a sacrifice or a trade-off that Black American families have to make for themselves: [spoiler] Renting vs owning, staying rooted in a Black neighborhood vs pursuing opportunities elsewhere, prioritizing your family under a corrupt system vs sacrificing generational wealth for the greater good, etc. [/spoiler] These bring you to three endings (I got the "neutral" ending). The game is really good at getting you to think about the decisions and then showing you the outcomes of those decisions; there was a choice that took me 10 minutes of thinking to make because both characters that I could have sided with were making a point that resonated with me very personally. The music is in game is incredibly pleasant. Pumashock did a great job. Heck I even fell asleep playing. The game itself is beautiful and I like that your choices matter. Beautiful story.

This game is nothing but woke DEI trash bruv. Why do they keep making these racist, misandrist, woke propaganda games? Don't give this game the time of day.
3.5 Made me contemplate gentrification and what it means to cherish a community. I enjoy that it made my think, I do wish there were more "actions," I guess. I as the player only made three or four real action choices. Which is ok for a visual novel style game, but not my first choice. Still, it's free and has a cute style and good story.
Great little free to play point and click choice making game. Story was great and the biggest point to this game. I love how every choice has REAL meaning to the rest of the story I love the wokeness of the game and how it tackles double standards for Black and Brown folk when it comes to buying and owning a home.. Gameplay is very basic but in a game like this what more could you ask for really. Music i good with some very emotional scores near the end. I love the hand drawn like art style really works for a game like this. Overall Score 6.5/10. [Story 15/20. Art Style 15/20. Gameplay 5/20. Music 15/20. Replayability 15/20.]
