About DOUGH: A Crime Strategy RPG
A Crime themed 4x meets RPG, set during the prohibition. Choose between starting from nothing or start with something, make decisions that will impact your bludgeoning empire, get rich perform crimes while keeping the cops, media, politicians and general populace off your back. The roaring twenties are a time of possibilities, if you are willing to take them.
Money, Power, Glory, Women. These alone move the wheels of history. Writing history is the last thing on your mind right now though. A lowly criminal doing everything to get by... your pockets are empty, your stomach makes a large noise at night, but all that doesn't matter. Money, Power, Glory, Women... you know what you are capable of. Money, power, glory, women... these are never given, only taken. Fearless man with a gun and a big ambition can get it all... question is, do you have what it takes?
Choose your nationality, playstyle and way to get to the top. Over 250 encounters where you will choose your own destiny, and the destiny of your syndicate. Became a politician, or a cunning master ready to deceive and backstab at all times, turn enemies against one another, be so brutal and organized that no one can win a war against you, or make your business squeeze every dime from the customers. But there is always time for some dollface to charm, or maybe gamble. Play your own fantasy.
Maintaining, building and improving business is key to your operations. Choosing which business to be build on which place, choosing who to manage them, choosing when to stop their work if they raise too much heat or choosing when to upgrade them are all choices you will have to make around your businesses.
Money is good, but power is above that. In this world, it's important what you have, but it's more important who you know. Maybe help out the mayor when he has a bad rating, so you can always use him to put someone you have good relationship with in a high position? Maybe force him to put a new police chief, because the old one is connected with your enemies. Having good relationship with the police chief always comes in handy, whether to get someone out of jail, or to put someone in there, depending on your needs. An ally has a strong case against them? Having the judges in your pocket will turn allies into friends in need.
In this world, everyone wants a piece of the action. Money, power, whatever you can give to them. Politicians, judges, media. But that's not so bad. You can use them all to your advantage. Some faction decided to get in war with you? No problem, use the media to bring heat and for the public to want justice. They have good relationship with the police chief? No problem, just kill him, and maybe bring someone you have good relationships with? How about bribing the media so they will always defend you action? You can always try sending the police to raid an enemy of yours so you cut their supply and attack them just at the right time, when they are the weakest. The world is your oyster.

So 15 hours in, and I keep coming back to this early release game. Yes it is a touch rough around the edges, and so far the developer is being open and honest with users, responding and fixing issues. There is a really simple issue and suggestion reporting system included in the game to support continued development. I am very happy to recommend this.2 found this helpful
this is the closest to the "gangsters original crime" game ive tried so far.1 found this helpful
Too early to release this.
It definitely feels similar enough to Gangsters: Organized Crime to scratch the itch, but it definitely needs some QoL improvements to keep the flow of gameplay from feeling tedious and/or cryptic. For instance, sometimes the UI feels like the gameplay is designed for a touch screen, while other times the UI requires input in such a specific spot, that it can only be done with a mouse. Some menu's can be clicked off of to close them, while others must be closed by the x in the top corner, when they all have x's in their top corner. Employees or "associates" can be somewhat tedious as they can be hired through multiple clicks of the same menu instance, but must be assigned/removed one at a time through multiple instances of entering and exiting the task menu several times. That's just one of the few things that ruins the "flow" of the gameplay for me. But overall, it's got good foundation and just needs further updates for iron out the gameplay and further lessons in the tutorial to teach the rest of the mechanics that it seemingly doesn't cover at all.
As long as the Dev keeps up the great work It's worth it. I ended up getting my copy on sale for 12 bucks and I am happy with the purchase.
fixing my review again. Game is or feels abonded. No updadates since release. . YES, . Works perfect on my SteamDeck. Nice to just pick up turn on and play, turn off and go on with your day, and do it again. I was hesitant to post a review, because it does NOT deserve a negative one, but I need it time to make sure it need it a positive one. Its a tuff game to learn. There are things in this game not very clear on how they work, but more you play it more clear it becomes. I think the dev did a pretty good job with this title. Could it use more, sure, but what game couldnt use more now days. I do wish I could zoom in a bit closer, and see a bit more action when I make my character do things, but honestly if you get into it, thats such a small i wish, the game is fun. Hopefuly when it comes out to full release Dev will continue on his roadmap.
