This becomes so much more fun when you realize your invulnerable grapple can be used like a parry. You lose your invulnerability if you attack during the grapple, but the meter you use to grapple only recharges from attacks. So you can grapple just as the enemy attacks, then attack afterwards before they can get another hit in. Or if you prefer, you can largely ignore the grapple and just dart in and out, slowly wearing the enemy down. This isn't Sekiro, and you don't need to parry everything.1 found this helpful
I really liked it. the time travel is very cool, it has a lot of charm and it is dirty cheap. Get it.
Good hidden gem. Didn't care much for the art style, but the gameplay was great. Lots of different abilities, many ways to sequence break. The bosses are much faster than you may expect, and you get used to it, though the first boss or two may throw you for a loop.
DragonLoop is a very interesting mix of metroidvania progression and time-loop structure. At its best, the game feels clever: you learn something in one timeline, use that knowledge in another, unlock faster routes, and slowly understand how the world changes depending on when and how you reach each area. The core idea is strong. The true ending route, the bell sequence, and some side quests make good use of the loop concept. One quest in particular, involving a failed ritual, was well telegraphed: the game showed me the consequence first, then let me use a faster route in another loop to change the outcome. That is exactly the kind of design that makes time-loop games satisfying. The combat and exploration are also solid. Movement allows some sequence breaking, and sometimes you can reach places before getting the “intended” ability, which can feel rewarding. The bosses are generally enjoyable, and the atmosphere/story worked well enough that I wanted to see the true ending. However, the game becomes much weaker when going for 100%. Some secrets depend on very specific combinations of location, day, loop state, and previous events, but the game often does not communicate the re…
I play a lot of metroidvanias. This game kicks! There's mixed reviews online that I don't agree with. this game hits all the buttons and has very unique gameplay that make it worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game and if you have any second thoughts about it stop. Grab this game if you like unique metroidvanias. The game play is really good and its not very linear and makes you have to review the map a lot to think about where you're going. There's not a lot of soft locked areas but if there are you can pin things on the map. It's never overwhelming. Great game overall.
This is a very solid time manipulation and routing oriented Metroidvania. There are a lot of upgrades, many fairly unique to this game, and you have a lot of movement potential with those movement abilities to perform sequence breaks and open up alternate routes. To get some of the secrets and macguffins, you do need to perform some of these sequence breaks so the game has you constantly looking for ways to get around having to use one of the zones that advance time. You only have 5 days before you're forced back to the start of the time loop, and there are well over a dozen routes through the areas. Xi's sprite is great and I like her animation, she's adorable. The other characters all have solid and varied designs. Overall it's a really pretty game. There are a few visual difficulties in some places, where it can be hard to tell where exactly platforms and where backgrounds are, but there's aren't enough to really negate the overall look and feel of the game. The translation isn't the best, but it's still better than a few other (still very enjoyable!) Chinese games like Afterimage or Journey of Realm: Dawn Dew. It's mostly concise and understandable. Level desi…
