I'm not far into it at the moment, but the very first impression is a decent and responsive Metroidvania. Controler recomended... however I seem to have an issue where the ''tutorial'' prompt show Keyboard input. This is obviously minor as you can go look at control in the menu, try by trial and mistakes (and learn), etc. Otherwise, very responsive controls when you get the hang of it. Classic Metroidvania game with some RPG element like Dust (but so far no crafting). Get it now as it's on sale (2026 summer sale)... or wait and encourage the team for a 3rd installment. Oh, and you need to be impervious to (great) retro pixalated graphics.1 found this helpful
The game is very much inspired by Symphony of the Night which is a good thing. The orbs (main weapons) were fun to unlock and I found myself trying out every new one I collected. The equipment was well thought out and enjoyable to toy around with. OP equipment being found towards the end of the game for those that enjoy it. The only negative I can think of were the spells, I don't know if it was the charging or damage output but they all felt kind of pointless to use. Overall though I highly recommend this title to fans of the metroidvania genre.1 found this helpful
I really enjoyed this game and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys metroidvanias. It's a solid game for its price point. Pros: Great pixel art Amazing soundtrack Smooth controls and combat Some challenging, but rewarding fights Variety of attacks and spells Cons: I wish the descriptions on items were a bit better. Some items left me wondering how much of a benefit I was receiving Melee orbs used with the environment only happens like 3 times throughout the game Using time mechanic only helps in a handful of areas in the game Quests aren't really emphasized. I didn't even really notice they were a thing until I was almost done the game What I'd like to see in the sequel: Passcodes for character name that change how you play. (Melee Orb/Aura/Luck etc) A bit more diversity in equipment to support different builds. More puzzles that are centered around the melee orbs/Auras/time mechanic A late game item that helps you find any missing chests/hidden areas by highlighting parts of the map. Having two different orbs offers a new attack Maybe some more utility aura spells (freezing enemies in place, confusing them to attack their allies or something that helps explore the map furthe…
A love letter to classic Metroidvanias that is primarily downvoted not for mechanical shortcomings but due to ideological problems that people have with the characters and lore. Despite the fact that it isn't a marathon game with hours on end of gameplay mostly spent traversing a massive map and fighting scores of the same enemies, it's fun and charming with enough variance in setting and mechanics to keep it from being "not just another Igavania clone." Despite this, it's clearly inspired by Symphony of the Night right down to the soundtrack. It tries to inject some novelty in a genre that primarily uses the same several mechanics to gate content. As a single player experience, my gripes with the game are that they don't make enough use of the uniqueness of time travel as a gating mechanic and that the quest system feels somewhat slapped on as the major outcomes of their completion are more lore and achievements. (Spoken as someone whoa appreciates the dialogue and characters.) The asymmetric co-op is interesting and very powerful against bosses and stationary enemies, but due to being a split screen game can have accuracy issues and make the player 2 feel useless at times. …
Timespinner has a very unique premise and great story writing. The pace keeps you engaged, the characters are great and the world is fun to explore. A lot of cool and unique weapons and accessories to collect so you can have a multitude of playstyles and grind to your hearts content if that's your thing. Many different endings to go for and some choices have consequences. Awesome game 10/10.
This was a fun little game. It definitely scratches that metrodvania itch that occasionally comes along. The game has multiple endings, so you can go back through and replay a couple of times. I liked some of the weapon options. Others I found to be very underwhelming. The main gimmick of this is your ability to freeze time. I often forgot about that during normal traveling, and ended up solving some of the map puzzles at the end of the game when I was going through and completing all of the map. The game isn't really difficult, even on normal mode. You get healing items in your inventory that you can cap out (as long as you keep farming money to buy more). The healing items give you a lot of lenience with boss battles. Some people like harder games. You can always play through this one with self imposed limitations if you want. You can also find the code to unlock nightmare mode by searching online. But, I enjoy the option to just play through without having to worry about timing boss moves just right over and over again.
