Introduction

Frontier Hunter is a genuine Metroidvania game. Compared to our last work, Frontier Hunter has fuller stories, content, monsters, more exquisite scenes, smoother actions, and a more diversified, personalized cultivation system. We’ll do our best to make the game construction more thorough and stable. Also, we’ll add more featured experience, gameplay, and content in future updates.
Two years ago, Erza obtained the legendary hunter license and became a rising star in the imperial force. Under the rule of the wise and able emperor, the empire grows steadily. As one of the core forces in the expansion, Erza has won many military exploits.
In this fantasy world of swords and magic, Erza will lead an exploration team and start an epic adventure. She will fight unknown monsters and solve mysteries of the world. Why would the fiend become a hair clip? You’ll find the answer in the game.

Features
  • Classic side-scrolling levels with steadier, smoother gameplay. Jump and dash can interrupt other actions’ recovery to get smoother responses.
  • During your exploration in the game world, you may find secret passages between the two main areas or accidentally enter unknown chambers with hidden stories.
  • Improved cartoon rendering makes the characters more lifelike.
  • Real beat 'em up combat system. Enemies have more ways to act after hit.
  • You’ll depend more on tactics when it comes to BOSS fights—learn their routines and act swiftly. Seize the chance to hit while keeping a distance.
  • With the character change and support system, Erza won’t be fighting alone.
  • 2.5D exquisite scenes will surely make an impression on you. The ultimate skills are made in 3D, which enables cool shows that 2D can’t do.
  • With a more diversified, personalized cultivation system, you can choose your favorite way to raise characters and find more possibilities.

Clearly inspired by Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and the 'Igavania' formula in general - your characters level up by completing quests and killing monsters, can discover new weapons, equipment and accessories, have special attack moves that can be unlocked, and monsters drop crafting materials. You can even install monster 'cores' into weapon slots, like gems or runestones, that give you various stat boosts and abilities. Combat is fast, responsive, and satisfying. Aesthetics are pleasing and unified, monster designs are well-done, and you have several characters with differing weapons and playstyles which you can utilize. Voices are all in Japanese and they are what you'd expect. There's a story here, sure, but it's purely in service of gameplay - as it should be. On a separate note - I have no idea why this game has the Souls-like tag; there's nothing about it that warrants it. From reading other reviews I think folks now conflate 'metroidvania' and 'souls-like' automatically, because there are too many indie titles that merge the two together. Thankfully, Frontier Hunter doesn't and it's better off for it. The old Igavanias were my favorite, and I found them to be the mos…

Ok so I beat the game and did all post game content and I wish I could say I like the game but I don't. The game isn't bad but it isn't good either, most of the bosses are easily delt with and as a whole the game doesn't feel good to play. The story is fine I guess nothing special but not horrid, I called every major twist by at least half way into the game. In terms of characterisation there's nothing to write home about. There is a gem in the rough here however in spite of all my moaning, Whilst I didn't enjoy my time with the game I can see why people do enjoy it, I think with a bit of refinement any future games made in the same vein by these devs has the opportunity to be good

Tried to give this one a shot but unfortunately need to say pass on it as there are still bugs and issues. Game is pretty enough with decent music and nice voice acting. However, combat mechanics are quite buggy where there have been times I have been stuck in walls. This is from a number of effects from simple exploration to being knocked back into a wall during a boss fight. Further, the boss fights are quite bland. It is just the same repeated pattern of dodge attacks, drain down a stamina bar, then go all in for a few seconds while boss is stunned. I have also experience frame rate drops from transitioning into different areas that took several minutes to get back to normal.

Fun platformer rpg with classic/nostalgic anime humor that I miss dearly. The gameplay is built around metroidvania level ups and armor with checkerboard armor attachments that you can use to build your character around. Personally I went with a glass cannon crit damage build on the 3rd character that I won't spoil and basically nuked the whole game. As I love doing rediculous things like that in games like this, I rate this game 8/10 with 2 points being lost to bugs and jank.

This game was really special for me, it made me fell in love with metroidvania games. For years I tried playing Hollow Knight, Bloodstained, Blasphemus, etc and none caught my attention. Until I played this game it made me love the genre and made me want to go back and revisit other games I have tried before. Particularly loved the combos and magic items, they were very fun to pull off And it has a very cool progression system that allows you to increase your stats based on a some items called cores that you can insert in weapons and armors, but with the twist of having a grid and each core has a different shape to it is like a mini puzzle trying to accommodate these cores in your equipment. Now to the review: Overall 9/10 Visuals 9/10 Combat 10/10 Music 8/10 Exploration 10/10 Boss fights 9/10 Story 7/10

Gonna pull a classic internet reviewing and say "So far, a lot of style and not a lot of substance". I finally got this game to install and it is holding on for dear life. My computer can run it, but it feels entirely unstable in the window. Considering this is the first time I've been able to successfully install this without receiving an error, it's a win. If the game wasn't built like a house of cards, I think it would be a lot of fun. I had to close it to check an email and the window wouldn't open back up and I had to close the program. The game itself reminds me of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night... the menus in the shops are identical... and you run around as a "hot girl" who changes hair and costumes, crafts meals and weapons, and collects items from treasure chests. It's a huge rip off... but I'm going to keep trying because I think the game could be fun.
