Dreams of Another

Boring, pseudo-intellectual drivel and generally annoying dialogue. The art is nice but there isn't any real gameplay, fun or story. I like pixel junk stuff but this is a big disappointment.

These reviews are made of words... and you read them.. but can I read you? Yes, you are bad. Perhaps people read this review in different ways... the words changing to adapt to each person's own thoughts... no.. you are still bad. But what is bad? If only the opposite of good? And what is good? Yes. If good is yes, then you are no.

Dreams of Another is a game where the player travels through a number of stories that involve deep philosophical discussions. It dives into the feelings surrounding existentialism, loss, personal drive, fate, destiny, and duty. The story elements of the game are extremely thought-provoking yet melancholic. Not to deter people from playing, but I came away from this game with mixed feelings of hope and sadness. One section was so closely relevant to my own life that I wept while playing through it. So, for the story elements, if you are into deep philosophical discussion about human life on our planet, and can deal with it being rather melancholic, I think this game is more than worth it. I definitely came away with a lot of things to think about. From a gameplay standpoint, on the other hand, the game can feel like a slog, especially the underwater parts, which slow things down even further (tho I really enjoyed the underwater story). The uncovering of the world through weaponry and explosions is very interesting early on, but becomes tedious the longer you play. You just want to see the story elements, and you have to re-uncover the world over and over to get to them. Fortunately,…

“There is no creation without destruction” is the premise of the very strange indie game I had the chance to try this week: Dreams of Another, the new project from Q-Games, the studio known for the PixelJunk franchise. In simple terms, Dreams of Another could be described as an anti-shooter: a shooter game, but in reverse. Instead of destroying things with bullets… you create them… WHAT??? The first thing you need to know is that this is an experimental game in every sense of the word. If you’re only looking for a traditional game, this isn’t for you. But if you want something truly different—with all the pros and cons that come with that—and something that might even make you reflect, then you might enjoy this title. The game takes place in a dream world, where everything is constantly changing and nothing has a defined shape. You take control of a man in pajamas who uses a machine gun and other weapons to literally materialize the world around him. Okey wow, what a good experience. Enjoyed a lot, i do think the pace could have been much better sometimes with some moments when the music could have taken more space and have more variety. The narration became a bit redundant on the second half and i thought the storyline with the piano kid was much more interesting. But GG, loved it. Crazy writing here.
