Ducky is one of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of video games everywhere. This one, on the upside, isn't an asset or a template flip exactly, it seems to be genuinely made. You get to control a rubber duck looking pixel blob through a bunch of diverse retro pixel blob environments, with an overland map and various precision platformer levels strewn about the place. Controls are finicky and imprecise, making the game unpleasant to play. For any platformer to have even a remote chance of being appealing, being such a dead, lazy genre favoured by amateur developers, the controls must be absolutely perfect (refer to games like Cuphead and Hollow Knight, they would have flopped if they had bad controls). Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable …

This is a a fun back to basics platformer. While I'm not sure about the scope of the game, if there are bosses, ect. I recommend.

The first thing that struck me about Ducky was the music. The title screen brought a wide smile to my face as the music began - it felt like "home", so familiar and comfortable. I'm not normally one for "precision platformers" so one of my favourite features of this game is the "level select" map which allows you to play levels in any order you see fit. Sick of the level that just earned you a "game over"? Start in a different level next time and come back to that one later. A great little nostalgia kick, especially for any fans of the very early 90's PC platformers.

It's a nice straightforward platformer and the duck can throw shurikens.

Nothing overly impressive. Control mapping is a bit odd, and they don't reel responsive. I don't think the intial level design really takes advantage of the floating mechanic that I noticed.

This was a fun little game! The intro music (and the music in general) was so cool and I was really vibing to it. The jumping mechanic was a bit hard to control for me at first, but other than that, I really recommend this game! It sells for a cheap price and I spent around 2 hours to complete the game :)
