Escape from the Cursed Convent

This game is genuinely a blessing to the free rpgmaker horror game list. The story is great, and I found myself resonating with the characters a lot. The atmosphere and visuals are genuinely amazing, and I got hooked on the story despite not knowing the source material. It can definitely be played without knowing its basis, and for me it was a very fun experience. Given it's multiple endings, and different choice which affect how the game ends, made replaying it quite fun. The QTE's aren't exactly hard, nor are the minigames. I did especially like the sliding puzzle which takes place when Adeleine is tasked with sewings something, although it isn't encountered often. The historical context behind this made it very appealing to me. Taking place in 1544 during the witch trials, and being based on the witches children is such a great concept, and each character feels distinct and alive. I especially liked Kaven's character and how she developes during the story line. Gameplay wise it sort of plays like a VN with some minigames included in the story. All in all it isn't very challenging but a very fun experience non the less. I'd 100% recommend anyone to atleast try this game out ,…

You know it's a really well made horror game when it can induce scary atmosphere even on broad daylight, and this game game did it amazingly!

At the time of writing this, I'm almost an hour into the game and I don't like it that much so far. I thought it was supposed to be horror but it seems too heavily focused around embarrassingly easy and lame minigames that it seems to congratulate you for completing, even though it wasn't that hard. I may or may not play some more, and if I change my mind, I'll update this review. But for now, I do not recommend.

Really needs better translation and proofreading. For a free game, this can usually be ignored, but it does ruin a lot of enjoyment of the story encountering so many errors and grammar mistakes. It's a interesting game, the QTE's timing hold it back. Would only recommend if you have good reading comprehension skills otherwise, you won't get a lot about of the games plot
