I loved this game 25 years ago. In fact, this game was ironically involved --for me, personally -- during one of the most tragic incidents to ever happen to my home country. Irrelevance aside, this game is as buggy now as it was back in the day and I still love it. The problem is I can't play it because of said issues; all suggested fixes haven't worked. That being said, it's not an expensive game and it's old, so you get what you pay for. If you like the nostalgia of this classic, then go for it. But BE WARNED about save data that can become corrupted and crash the game. Have a hex editor handy.
EAW is a *really* good and accessible ww2 sim by MPS even by today's standards. If you ever played 1942 pacific air war it's pretty much the sequel to that but focused around the euro theater around the battle of britain and the subsequent years of invading and taking the fight back to the nazis. Visuals might not stand out now, but that was a point made at the time the game released and the game was mostly praised for the gameplay\systems it had, that classic MPS loop of doing a seemingly infinite amount of missions and ranking up as you earn points. However! on the highest rank you can earn the chance to maintain and manage your own squadron! Lots of cool stuff here for a nearly 20 year old game.
I really wanted to like this but the lack of joystick support really makes it unplayable for me. Too bad as I was really hopeful MicroProse would breathe new life into old gems like this. Also, game seemed to require DirectPlay. No other game I've played requires it. It probably has not been updated and has tons of issues itself.
I used to play this many years ago. It's the only flight game I've had that let you fly axis planes. Music is great and boardroom assignments add realism.
Joystick with throttle were recognized for flight and I just used JoyToKey to map the buttons to keys, works well. I owned this game back in the day, and I have been playing it for years. Graphics are dated but the gameplay makes it worth it. Get it on sale when possible.
still awesome
