1942: The Pacific Air War

Old but gold, played this to death in the day, l remember walking into game and saw this running, my jaw hit the floor 2 days later l had a pc playing 1942: The Pacific Air War, great great days .

The Game NEEDS to be remastered. The flight simulator and gameplay are excellent. However, the game must be upgraded to be compatible with all the latest and legacy Flight Controllers.

1942 The Pacific Air War is a very very old game, from the 90s. It has that good old pixelated graphics, weird sound effects, no tutorial, I don't even know how to look at my keybinds I figured them out by simply pressing ♥♥♥♥ and finding out what it does. Its obviously not modern at all. So why should you buy this instead of a modern flight sim? Well the answer is simple: You shouldn't. I bought like a package that came with a lot of old games and this was one of them, I thought they would be very fun. They are not, they are very hard to figure out because the essential things that we find in every game nowadays wasn't a thing back then I guess. +Quite a lot of planes with cool looking cockpits. Wildcats, Zeros, B-17s, Catalinas, P-40s... There's a lot more fighters in both the Japanese and the American side, there's like 1 flying boat for each team, a few bombers. Still very good. +I do really like the graphics and the noises in these older games. They're just so weird which makes me love em. -As usual with these old games no tutorial. The times before Steam were wild. I miss those days a little. Anyway, this is a Strategy game I played decades ago. Thankfully, in my ability to think ahead, I even wrote my own review of it at that time. Unfortunately that review was just some wildly ridiculously complicated recipe for a sandwich. I won't include that recipe, because it obviously has nothing to do with the game. I will tell you that I made that sandwich, ate the sandwich, and despite the complicated requirements in making it... It was delicious. What I had to say about the game is that I found the graphics to be really great at certain points, especially for the time period. What I didn't like is that the whole strategy element felt like you were so far removed from the process despite actively making choices. Perhaps it was watching dots move that I didn't like. Alright, well, it's a DOS flight sim from a day after 1993. I've never played it before, I just own this game for some reason (Nightdive releases quality stuff) and I decided to buy it and play it. I was kind of not disappointed. I basically just flew a couple of missions and shot down a few F4Fs or whatever, it's hard to even tell because of the graphics, but I saw blue paint which means US Navy. I was pretty satisfied with the controls and the flight model. Although... this game feels a lot like Super Nintendo Pilotwings. So uh yeah. It's a little more advanced, but it's still a relatively primitive simulation. It still gets a lot of stuff really right though, so it's definitely a good game. Anyway, more important to talk about is the release. It worked for me via the Linux or Windows packages, but I noticed that the Linux package was missing sounds, and presumably the Windows package too. Which is a shame, but you can just mod in the correct sounds - someone in the Steam Guides section has figured it out, so if you really want the experience to be as authentic as possible you can just go check that out. It's a shame you have to do that, but it didn't really trouble me. And …
