A lot better than I expected given the reviews. Perhaps a lot of the earlier bugs have been ironed out now, but my experience has been enjoyable and largely bug free . Maybe not as good as the best entries on PS3 but still a heap of fun all said and done.1 found this helpful

PSP Hot Shots Golfer here, also played PS2 Fore. It's got the gameplay loop that you recall, especially from the PSP. Single player Challenge mode feels very akin to that sort of "pick-up and play for awhile" appeal that the PSP Hot Shots Golf had (thankfully without some of the headaches). That sort of "golf course puzzle/timing minigame" appeal of the swing meter that the Hot Shots games possess as their core gameplay mechanic is all here, safe and sound. The characters are uh well, high quality anime models instead of the more cartoony look; something I believe I missed from not playing the PS3/PS4 era. They are the hyper cute-ified kind that is so prevalent in the medium today. Yes it's all a bit grindy, and perhaps a little annoying if you don't turn off all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ voices. All-in-all, this has more than enough Clap Handz DNA to be a passable and enjoyable "Hot Shots" game. Am I not seeing the mini-golf?
I have changed my mind - this is a good game. I still think that the grind for new characters is way to much! But... as I got some of them, the game got a lot more entertaining and fun. And I suddenly realized that I'd played the game way more than I thought I would. And because of that - this is now a Recommend. Works fine on the Steamdeck.
