Fading Echo

Fun game so far, and I recommend it even this early in. * Interesting mechanics which can make the combat entertaining * I enjoy the visual style and art * Good music * Samantha Béart voicing the lead character

So far this is a fun game with some clever mechanics, if a bit rough around the edges. And I'm always happy to hear the Critical Role folks as well!

Awesome challenging puzzles !

The story for this game feels incomplete. It felt like you needed to watch an episode or read a comic prior to playing this game to understand it completely as it drops you into it assuming you already know what the events were that led to this game. Combat is simple with some elemental tricks to spice it up. The art and music is the only thing that wows me in this game. I was probably 1 hour or 45 minutes away from finishing the game but one final death made me to just give up on it as I felt it overstayed its welcome. Get it on sale if you want to try it out.

I feel weird about this game because, functionally, it's fine, and it does a lot of things well, but there's just something... off, about it, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Well, for one, the writing is atrocious. It's like, written like an average animated film except there's out of place swearing sometimes, and while some of the characters are alright, there's The Obligatory Annoying Character Nobody Likes and also the world's most generic villain who almost seems self-aware of how generic he is at points but whateverrr. The actual story is not bad, it's an environmental message told through the lens of an alien world, and the world itself is very pretty and interesting, but the way it's presented and written just... sucks. The gameplay is the part I'm mixed on because I like a lot of the ideas but it also feels like it's... lacking? Something? The combat is a bit weirdly balanced - the ideal way to play is to kick everything into pits and, barring that, into goop, rather than fighting directly, the different elements do not really feel balanced - solidifying is always 100% of the time the best option and it's the one you can always do so the only enemies who are me…

Still in the middle of my first playthrough and my impressions are mixed. There's a lot of things i enjoy buried under a mix of some really puzzling and constantly grating creative choices. It's a dissapointing balance but for now it's still worth pushing further. Will update with my final verdict once I've seen the end (or 100% depending on how i feel by that point). edit: nvidia driver version 617.14 fixed the infinite loading bug and the game is now playable again.
