About Familiar

Familiar is an illustrated puzzle misadventure from Damsel Stone, following a witch's cat living on the island of Neverwarm. After a spell goes horribly wrong and all the inhabitants are turned into animals, there's only one hope of reversing the spell and bringing back normality and familiarity to the island of Neverwarm.

Explore an eccentric world where the weather is erratic, the stone has sentience, and the people have transmogrified. Use a combination of platforming, problem solving, potion drinking, and people pleasing in order to undo the disaster that has befallen them.

Familiar features an eclectic concoction of relaxing and atmospheric environments, tricky logic puzzles, challenging platforming sections, and gentle storytelling through dialogue with NPCs.
 • Finesse 2D platforming challenges found throughout the world
 • Drink potions to utilise different abilities and unlock different parts of the island
 • Get to know a fully-voiced cast of locals with a long list of predicaments
 • Examine and solve different logic puzzles, riddles, and scenarios
 • Go treasure hunting for missing ingredients needed to brew a reversion spell
A Familiar Feeline
A witch’s cat must undo a spell that turned the entire population of the island of Neverwarm into animals! Familiar quickly stood out to me thanks to its intriguing premise and striking art style. As it seemed the game was, for the most part, a work of a lone developer, I wondered if what was behind the scribbles would prove equally as interesting. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2811227796 The unique art style was certainly what made me interested the most. Although Familiar’s pencil drawing-like visuals can seem a bit too jagged at times, they carry a certain element of sincerity with them. The same can be said of the voice acting, which the game is surprisingly full of, with every NPC and cutscene being voiced. While it’s a bit inconsistent in terms of quality, it has a lot of character. As for the soundtrack, it’s quite enchanting, full of fairytale-like melodies that go wonderfully with the game's magical setting, even if the majority of its 30+ tracks don’t have proper time to shine and aren’t as memorable as others because of it. It's not the only thing that bugged me about its presentation. There are some …

A BEAUTIFUL GAME AND THE FACT THAT THE VOICES ARE MY FAMILY MAKES IT VERY 'FAMILIAR'

The game is good, but it needs a 'quit to menu option', in case a bug is found, so progress isn't necessarily lost, such as the bug with the spinning windmill at "Horizon's Homestead" that causes you to become stuck inside of it. Haven't made it insanely far into the game, but from what I've done so far, I can safely say that, apart from these issues, it is a really good game, and 100% worth a play-through or two. Good job so far with this game, and I hope to watch your future releases with great interest!

I really wanted to like this game. It was rather fun, despite lack of polish and settings. The hand-drawn style, voiceovers, the siblings puzzle (i like this type of puzzles, but rarely see them in games) - enjoyed it a lot. But the final boss was the turning point for me. This fight is needlessly long and way too random - you can spend several phases simply watching boss regenerating health, because you were unlucky. Also, there is a chance to miss the wooden pole and ending in a falling loop. If you save the game before the boss fight and leave, you can't do the fight! The ingridients are labeled as added, but nothing happens! Re-entering the building or reloading the game does nothing. I hate this so much! Well, at least the music during the fight is nice and indicates the phases. That's quite cool. Some other issues:

lack of settings (fullscreen mode, sound change etc.);
some dialogue lines are skippable, some are not;
the explanation for the music box puzzle is only given once. If you didn't read it (or simply forgot what to do) - good luck figuring it out;
the siblings puzzle has some redundant clues;
inside the library you can
teleport[/s…

Artwork for this game is great and really pulls the player in, a quit menu would be appreciated in order to close the game between sessions. The game is a lot of fun and an amazing start from this developer.
