FEED MY MECH

I think Feed My Mech is a great concept with a flawed execution. Several features in the game exist to create tension, but instead just create tedium. I understand having a low quality screen to see the exterior, but there is no reason for it to be so small, and literally be in the corner of the screen. I understand having limited inputs to control the mech, so it doesn't turn into Armoured Core, but making them literal cranks and levers is insane. I understand the two modes for the cameras, but when put together with the other features, and adding on the AWFUL interactions of the spider, it all just breaks down. I gave the game a real shot. I played it for 7,5 hours, and didn't even finish it. I made it to the spider tunnels, died like 15 times, finally made a run where I completed every objective, and died just before exiting the area. After that, I gave up. I decided to watch a walkthrough to see the ending, and I find out I am actually only about halfway in the game. I am glad I stopped when I did, since it turns out the spider isn't only in those tunnels, it follows you for the rest of the game. I'm here because of Mandalore and I'm sorry, maybe this is the hottest thing if you played Five Nights at Freddys, but I found the whole thing just kind of tedious. There is some decent writing and mystery in there but the basic mechanics of moving, exploring and dealing with threats are just so clunky that I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

I really want to like this game but I just cant nor do i reccomend it. The pacing is really bad, the controls are clunky, and near the end the game has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty. I bought this game as a part of a game review club event, otherwise I would have never noticed this game. I don't recommend it for it is. A clunky control navigation system in the same vein as Iron Lung with the jump scares of Five Nights at Freddy's. In essence, the controls simply exist to distract you from any task that is necessary to live, like the old maze jump scare games of ages pass. It didn't take me that long to figure this out. If you like that sort of game, then go for it, but it is completely niche.

This is basically iron lung with some familiar FNAF mechanics and puzzles, it's a bit buggy and it's incredibly tedious to find the mechs your supposed to salvage mainly because they're invisible unless you switch into the other mode. It's a well polished game with some world building don't get me wrong, it's just not my cup of tea to go on wild goose chases.

The first "Iron Lung-like" I've played. Works perfectly fine. You pilot a mech around a ruined colony(?) full of infected alien people and mechs. Plod around collecting signals and logs and access keys, advance to the next area, rinse and repeat. Mechs are invisible to normal vision, but the heat scanner view prevents you from moving, so dealing with enemy mechs in my experience consisted of them hugging me out of nowhere before I flipped a switch to zap them off of me like a popular streamer's unwanted dog. Once I did manage to see one coming and blasted it, but I never could tell if any of the ambient noises were approaching mechs or not, so most of the time I got hugged. I feel like if you liked Iron Lung, you'll like this game, and the runtime seems to be around the same. I entered the second area at around the 50 minute mark before taking a break and I can't imagine it'll take more than another hour to finish the final two, assuming the presence of 4 different keycard ranks indicates 4 total areas to explore.
