About Feed the Deep

When they built the floating cities, they had no idea an insidious threat lurked deep below...

Feed the Deep is a compulsive lovecraftian roguelike inspired by the likes of Dome Keeper and Spelunky. Dive into an ever-changing system of undersea caves. Collect resources that can be traded for upgrades and items. Explore ever deeper, managing dark spaces, limited oxygen, and hostile wildlife, and complete your mission to Feed the Deep.

  • Procedurally generated caves make every expedition different.
  • Explore at your own pace. Dive fast and aggressive, explore slowly, dropping markers along the way.
  • Soundtrack by award-winning composer Cedar Jones (Jetpack Joyride and more).
  • An atmospheric deep sea adventure with lovecraftian vibes

ABOUT THE DEVELOPER

Feed the Deep was built almost entirely by me, Luke Muscat. Back in the Old Times I was creator of Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to try the ultimate game dev challenge and make a game completely solo.

Feed the Deep is inspired by Dome Keeper and Spelunky, mixed in with my own original ideas and twists. I've also been documenting the process on YouTube, so you can see the game go from hour one of development to where it is today!

Game feels too dark and slow. Maybe its my own ability to get lost, but swimming around in the dark running into dead ends and running out of air and needing to go back doesn't feel great. Would maybe feel better if there were some kind of vague mapping system to remember the last place I was exploring so I could get back there a bit easier. There are items to aid exploration, but their usefulness is somewhat limited and requires a large amount of investment of time and resources to make them useful. The combination of darkness and trying to find an item lost in the darkness feels like a bit too much to deal with, not to mention how slow it actually is to move through the environment's winding paths.

Didn't think this game would be so much fun - I can really recommend this one! The gameplay is pretty simplistic. You mainly gather resources and bring them up top before your air tank runs out, then level up, and dive back down to complete your main objectives. It's still very challenging which I really liked! If you haven't leveled up yet, you are swimming really slow when towing resources, then you have to decide how to deal with enemies (shoot them, waste ammo, or try stealth), and you have try not to get lost in the deep as everything is completely dark down there. So, nice little game! I didn't do the challenges though - I was completey satisfied with completing the main objectives.

Another banger by Luke Muscat

Too much darkness, not a fan of not being able to see anything, and the diving and returning felt repetitive very quick.
