First Person Stapler

ENG: The world of $1 games is full of junk, flip assets, AI trash, and other junk. Within that world, you can sometimes find honest stuff, like little visual novels or experimental games. These games by Andrew Connelly are simple and crude, but they're honest and entertaining too. In this case, it's a time attack game set in offices, where you have to shoot targets with stapler staples, with several levels that add up to an hour of gameplay. If you appreciate this kind of amateur, handcrafted game, I recommend check this one and his other two games. The game has good bones.... but it still needs to be filled out a bit. The core gameplay loops of chasing down all the targets is tight and fun, but it's a little too buggy and punishing. The "bullets" don't hit where they clearly are hitting too many times, and the kick mechanic (for opening doors) requires way too much precision for a game intended to be fast-paced like this (it either won't connect, or will actually pull the door into you if it's not *just right.* With some polish, this could be a serious contender in it's price bracket, but IMO it still needs that polish.

Pneumatic Stapler ftw! Also I liked the mechanic of shooting the doors to open them mixed with the fast-paced arcade gameplay. It was a fun time!

First Person Stapler is for those hardcore fast moving FPS players that like to be timed. I am not one of them. If there was a casual mode or more time I'd probably like it more than i did. I don't hate it but i dont love it either so id give it a 5/10 only recommended for those that can deal with the timed nature of the game

First Person Stapler is exactly the kind of silly little FPS that I can appreciate because it takes one ridiculous idea and actually builds a whole game around it. I am working a night shift in an office call center, except instead of doing anything productive I am running around with a stapler shooting targets and causing as much chaos as possible. The goal is simple. I need to reach the exit while destroying as many targets as I can before the timer runs out. It is very basic, but the whole thing has a fun old school arcade feeling that makes it easy to pick up and play. The time limit is what gives the game most of its energy. I start with a limited amount of time and have to move through the office quickly while looking for targets. Shooting clocks gives me extra time, while coffee temporarily makes me move faster. I also get more points for things like headshots, so I am not just trying to finish the level. I am trying to finish it quickly and get a better score at the same time. I like that because it gives the short levels a reason to be replayed instead of making them something I only complete once. I also like the different staplers.
