"Free Strategy Chess Game" is a low key asset flip, a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game, typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. It's extremely low effort and also has nothing to do with Chess at all, so, you know, trying to mislead gamers or something as well as asset flipping. It's no wonder this was a complete and utter failure. Free Strategy Chess Game is a surprisingly ambitious little strategy game, and I liked that it is much closer to a tactical RPG than the title initially makes it sound. Instead of playing ordinary chess, I control a group of characters on a battlefield and move between different locations on an overworld map. I enjoyed the feeling of going from exploration straight into tactical combat, because it gives the game more of a small adventure structure. The battles are turn based and give each unit a clear role. I can choose between basic attacks, skills and equipment, while different characters are better suited for different positions. I liked having to think about formation because putting a strong defensive unit at the front while keeping healing and ranged characters behind can make a big difference. The combat is simple enough to understand, but there is still room for making better decisions. The overworld is another part I enjoyed. Moving around the map lets me discover friendly locations, recruit allies and enter battles. Regular combat areas disappear after I clear them, while tougher challenge areas can be revisited, which gives me something to return to once my team become…
