About Glow

Glow is a fast-paced action game in the spirit of the good old 80's & 90's 2D top-down shooters, presented in modern 3D graphics. You control a lone but brave Firefly, to help her fight evil spiders and critters that try to hunt you down.

But fear not, dying is not the end. The more you play, the more perks you can collect for your flying hero, which help you to get rid of even more enemies. Are you good enough to lead the global online leaderboard and become Glow world champion?

GAMEPLAY

  • Control your Firefly in a fast-paced action game with a zoomable 3rd person view
  • Various types of Spiders and anti-aircraft Slugs try to shoot you down
  • Equip the Firefly with various weapons, ordnance & passive abilities (500+ combinations)
  • Collect power-ups to heal, gain more points, or even spawn Minions that fight on your side
  • Increase your score by killing enemies to unlock new perks and climb up the leaderboard
  • Easy to learn, hard to master: Just play and become better over time

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's charming insect-themed concept and find it has some addictive arcade shooter qualities, but most criticize the shallow gameplay, small maps, poor optimization, and overall lack of depth or originality beyond its novelty firefly-versus-spiders premise. At its $5 price point, reviewers feel there are better alternatives available, whether free-to-play options or deeper experiences, making it difficult to recommend despite its quirky appeal.

"Glow" is a kind of third person shootemup where you control a firefly and shoot spiders, but unlike SimAnt which takes insect simulation to the practical edge, that's where the thematics end. Outside of the graphics (which don't look terrible), the gameplay is bog standard third person shooter. The map sizes are disappointingly small, the game is unoptimised, and doesn't really go anywhere, making it a fairly limited arcade shooter. There's a few upgrades, but overall, there's nothing to this game, it's only differentiated by the insect theme, and that's a poorly executed hook. I'd rather go play SimAnt again. They want $5 for this, but there's deeper, richer, and entirely free to play games available. I can't recommend it.

It has "My First Project in Unreal Engine" written all over it, but somehow it lures you in and keeps you playing. The gameplay is ridiculous: you’re a firefly armed with a minigun that shoots spiders, you drop mines and fire rockets at them, and the spiders shoot back with bullets. 5/10 - Neutral
