Go Kart Island

Go Kart Island is a kart racing game focused on single player content. There is a story mode that is hilarious thanks to the charming dialogues, the island can be fully explored for collectibles and some minor secrets. The story missions are varied with objectives, think of collecting objects, avoiding cops, being quick enough and make it first place among other things. The controls are good, the graphics are fine, the writing is great, I haven’t experienced any bugs except once very minor, the performance is stable, the achievements are pleasant (almost all can be gotten in story mode) and the length of the story feels just right with a sweet ending. When it comes to flaws, they’re really minor and more like nice to have what I’m about to mention. The cookie item has hurt me more than it helped because it bounces on walls which can easily hurt if you’re not careful. Some kind of a full map or an indicator to how close you are to the missions in terms of metres left would have been nice. There are times I’d have liked to boost freely because the normal speed can feel a bit slow sometimes. The game is a good model of how to deliver greatly with a small scope. I can definitely re…

Top quality chatter from the characters in this game! The racing is decent enough, there is exploring, collecting, challenges (some easy, some not so easy) but it really shines from thé start with the ridiiculous, silly conversations. What a tonic. It's fun! Maybe it's got something to say to you! Maybe not - doesn't matter, just skid around on Go Kart Island and see if you enjoy it. Definitely looking forward to the next one from this developer. Buy this!

Quite the cute and charming kart racer! The world and characters and humor really add a lot to the experience, and there's a great variety of race types and items that keep things fresh. The driving and drifting is simple, but effective for keeping things more laid back and relaxing. Ironically, one thing this game does best is what I wish Mario Kart World had more of -- actual "missions" that involve real characters and real things. This game does exactly that, and keeps you guessing what kind of mission will happen next. Aesthetically, it's also got a nice feel to it. The world itself is dense and charming, though I do find myself wishing for more variety in terms of level geometry, camera angles, etc. Overall, a great little kart racer for those who just want to have a relaxing time.

Short but sweet racing game with a nice little open world to explore.

5/10 A simple top down racing game that is a little too simple for my liking. It's cheap, but unless you want a cozy kart game, look elsewhere. Between races, you drive around in the open world, which is quite empty apart from some basic collectibles that are mostly easy to find and marked on the map. And you have to play through this in the 3 hour "Story" mode to unlock races and drivers for the challenge mode. Which is just replaying the story races. As from what I can tell, there is no multiplayer. Something I rarely care about, but for a racing game, it's kinda essential. After playing through this, I do not see much reason to come back to it. It doesn't help that the "story" is just cringe dialogue. The visuals don't help much. It's not a pretty game. And now, its not because that like the game play, its simplistic. the style is not good. The music is very repetitive and generic. The character designs are dull. As for the mechanics, it doesn't do anything that hasn't been done far better. This game is goofy as hell and I love it. I think the drift/slide could be improved, it just feels more like a sharp turn than any sort of actual sliding. Overall a funny little casual racer, with some clever missions and race modes. Good value.
