What Steam players say

Good Robot is a visually distinctive twin-stick roguelike shooter with clever mechanics like directional light-based enemy visibility and realistic wall physics, complemented by unconventional chiptune music and engaging gameplay that rewards practice. However, players are divided on the experience: some praise the strategic action and dodging depth, while others find the roguelike structure frustrating, the repetitive level design monotonous despite color variations, and the lack of narrative disappointing, with controls that take adjustment despite their intentional design.
Roguelike shoot 'em up or twin-stick shooter where you can shoot in every direction. It has a simple but appealing, distinctive visual style for the enemies reminding of Tron. Despite the tunnels being randomized, the levels themselves pretty much look the same all the time except for different colors. A neat gimmick is that you only see enemies when your light beam is in their direction and that walls block the light in a realistic way. Slightly floaty gamepad controls, but I realized that was because the robot doesn't stop on a dime. It takes a little longer the faster you are moving. No d-pad. I had trouble hitting my targets with aiming, but I got better at it. Cool unconventional chiptune music. No story except a few blurbs in vending machines which was a bit disappointing. I liked the choices of upgrades and weapons at vending machines, but I didn't like how everything became too expensive too quickly when money drops seemed to stay mostly the same.13 found this helpful

Looks pretty to start with, nice controls, but gets samey very quickly. No map, you're not sure where the next area is so there's lots of flying around looking for the right tunnel to go down. Basically things have moved on a lot in the last ten years, indie game-wise. It's a bit of a shame as I like the aesthetics but there's not much to it. Surprised how may 'very positive' reviews there are as it's just 'OK' for a twin-stick shooter. I can't recommend it when there are so many other decent shooters out there, so this is for those who have exhausted all the excellent ones.
Lots of fun and really enjoy that every level is procedurally generated so every game feels like a new game. If I had one criticisim it would the be the lack to tooltips / help to tell you what primary or secondary does what and if any is better than another. For example if I use a gun that shoots one projectile and it does 100 damage does the gun that shoots 4 spread out do 25 each or are they also 100 each? I have no idea. All in all you do figure most of it out through trial, error and I would give it a solid 4/5 stars.
THE BEST GAME THAT COMBINES COOL ACTION, DODGING, TACTICS, AND STRATEGY!!!!! BUY THIS GAME!!!
Not bad, it's good.
