About Gorgon Shield

Ever yearn to return to the magic of the first time you played an arcade RPG like Gauntlet 2 or Golden Axe? Recapture the magic in Gorgon Shield, from Oliver Joyce, creator of the beloved Swords and Sandals series!

Up to four heroes ride on a giant shield in a tower in their quest to vanquish the mighty gorgon Medusa. Fight, heal, gain treasure, rise upwards. Each hero will eventually fall and make their way for the next heroes, but their sacrifices will not be in vain - for their treasure will pass onto the next, paving the way forward ever onward.

Gather your party of expendable heroes in your quest to defeat Medusa! Control all four heroes as rise through the tower. Our heroes must battle waves of monsters, explore the tower's many secrets and make their way ever upward.
Your heroes will gain powerful upgrades and new allies will join you on your quest as you venture further.

Gorgon Shield is a world first - a vertical roguelike, top down Action RPG, side scroller and survivor game all in one. Expendable heroes, powerful unlocks, simple to play but difficult to master.
You've never played a game like Gorgon Shield. Will you be the first to reach the top of the tower and defeat Medusa?
Features:
- 10 playable heroes including the priest, knight and rogue
- The Elevator - Stand fast on the shield, protect it from enemies and gather valuable loot
- The Labyrinths - Fast paced dungeon crawling through fiendish mazes of the tower
- Fast paced but deeply strategic, with many party synergies and options on each run.
- Upgrades, collectables and powers to unlock on your way to confront and defeat Medusa!

- As soon as you reach level 4, you will gain a second hero - then again at certain points in the quest. These extra heroes will really help share the load.
- Keep an eye on your special powers and use them wisely. Heal when needed, use lightning to clear mobs and haste to gather loot fast.
- The right party synergies are all important! Four barbarians might sound fun, but who will heal them when things get dire?
- Expect your heroes to die often and early - but their upgrades will live on. No hero's death is in vain!

Not recommended - beneath the appealing visuals the content is extremely underwhelming. The replay value is zero because it is not enough to entertain even the first time through. Also it resorts to cheap tricks to forcibly extend the game length. The gameplay format is simple: 60 or so levels. A glitchy dungeon crawler segment every 5th level. A boss battle every 10th level. Random event doors every 3 levels or so. The levels are 30 second waves where you essentially grind gold and try to stay alive as the game ramps up the enemy damage every 10 levels. You know, just like every cheap indie game that tries to force an end of the game with a damage wall to artificially extend the play time. All you do is spin the figurative wheel to select which one of your dudes is attacking the enemy waves. There are no significant class specialties because everyone is a melee on a melee platform and a ranged one on the ranged one. Your controls are: spin the positions clockwise, counter-clockwise, activating character-specific special moves and activating the shield special spinning lazor beam move. That is all. Essentially the game is about 20 minutes long, though the copious amounts of da…4 found this helpful
A real-time action-strategy game that requires you to think about your strategy while your enemies are attacking you from 1 to 4 different directions. You can select up to 4 characters from a variety of different classes to fight in either melee or ranged positions, gather gold, heal, and/or repair your shield base platform. As your characters gain experience and level up you will be able to choose how to upgrade them: stats, special powers, new equipment, or you can choose to fully heal the character, fully repair the Shield, or just receive a gold payout. There are many special rooms to find during each climb, as well as powerful runes that can be earned after defeating a boss. And then, between battles, you will be able to spend your hard-won gold to construct buildings in town which each allows for different permanent meta-game unlocks and upgrades! This game is the real deal, a full-featured, mega-challenging masterpiece, and I am delighted to now own it! Happy tower-climbing, folks!!2 found this helpful
A fun game to play like try one or two runs a day. A run lasted me about 15 minutes and the game has arcade like mechanics and each run is different. It's its own thing and I like that and should be very popular.1 found this helpful
Fun Short Roguelike where you pretty much max out everything after a couple hours, wish it had more content because the gameplay loop is indeed quite good and isn't the hackneyed "you're a hero wandering around a [castle]/[wilderness] and you collect items until some absurd boss kills you in one hit, now do that 500 times" thing that every game does1 found this helpful
Gorgon Shield, developed by Whiskeybarrel Studios and published by 2 Left Thumbs and Gamersky Games, is a frantic, arcade-infused roguelike that stands out through its unusual premise and its commitment to 1980s-style visual flair. Instead of the traditional top-down or side-scrolling format, the game builds its identity around a vertical ascent: you and a party of heroes cling to a massive shield, climbing through dangerous rooms and enemy-filled spaces toward a confrontation with Medusa. This structure immediately gives the game a different feel from typical roguelite dungeon crawlers. Every run is framed as a desperate upward push, blending chaotic combat, quick decisions, and persistent progression in a way that captures both classic arcade energy and modern roguelike design. The gameplay loop is built around repeated ascents of the tower, each one offering new item drops, hero combinations, and room layouts. You start small, choosing a hero from a roster that eventually expands to ten unique characters, each with their own abilities and combat rhythm. Switching between heroes within a run adds a strategic layer—sometimes you need a ranged fighter to thin out mobs, other times…1 found this helpful
Unique roguelike gameplay combined with an intermittent, nostalgic, Gauntlet-like mini game. I can't say I've played anything else like it! I had a lot of fun with this one and I recommend it. My only complaint is that I beat it too quickly due an overpowered ability that made me feel as if I were cheating. For the devs: In case you want to know the ability I'm referring to, it's !!SPOILER!!
equipping four stun runes, then using your shield as often as possible. My enemies became completely disabled and I was able to fly through the game without being touched.
Thanks for this great lil' game!
