Gravity Lab

A casual puzzle game, just in VR. The good: * Consistent visual aestetics * Index controller support (but only as a visual gimmic, the gameplay does not make use of finger tracking) * Works without issues on linux (using proton) The bad: * Lackluster humour (I chuckled at the "catfood brand", but that is it.) * No story, as far as I could find it. Environmental storytelling ranges from nonexistend to incidental. * Puzzles seem trivial * Interaction object are seemingly always placed at an inconvenient height(for me). * No linux support from the dev itself This review is obviously very opinionated, because I expected something much more like Portal and was subsequently dissappointed.

I can't get it to work on Index sadly.

Only 0.7 hours in and I've already got some complaints about the game. -Poor Valve Index controller support: *The teleport movement is bound to the track pad, touching the track pad 'at all' will teleport you. Frustrating because I tend to rest my thumb on the track pad without thinking about it and it is always both disorienting and frustrating when I get teleported to some random location when I lift my thumb of the pad not realizing that I was in teleport mode. *The 'A' and 'B' keys do the exact same thing, opens the in game menu. *Pressing buttons with finger tracking is awkward. You'd think that when the in game menu is open you can just 'poke' the option you want with your finger but you cant. You have to get your hand close to the option you want, the button to be pressed is determined by what your 'hand' not 'fingers' is closest to. Then you click the trigger. *(My fix to the controls:) Use press and hold 'A' to teleport. Keep 'B' for use as the in-game menu. Make it so that you can select options in the in-game menu by poking it with your index finger. -The player perspective rotation is broken: In almost all VR games, there is a way for you to chang…

Either doesn't work with the Valve Index or currently has a game breaking bug. The hand menu sometimes doesn't work at all. I only played 10 minutes but got stuck twice because the menu buttons could not be selected.

This is one of those hidden gems that I never would of heard of, except it popped up in the viveport offerings. After playing, I purchased immediately. Amazing concept and good implementation. This has the potential to be a Portal quality game if it had a bigger budget.

If you liked portal and Zachtronics games, you'll love this. Loads of content too. There are some bugs and some levels require lameness to beat because the balls don't come out of the level right, or some other bug. I love this though, and recommend it.
