Grim Horde

Grim Horde is a dark-fantasy action roguelite that puts players in the unusual position of becoming the menace that ordinary heroes would normally be expected to defeat. Developed and published by Red Koi Box, the game casts the player as a Darklord attempting to conquer the mortal world by summoning monsters, destroying settlements, collecting souls, and steadily expanding an evil army. This reversal of the traditional fantasy formula is its most immediately appealing quality, giving a familiar roguelite structure a different personality without making the basic mechanics difficult to understand. Rather than relying entirely on direct attacks, much of the Darklord’s strength comes from summoned minions. Grim Horde is a fast little roguelite where I get to play the villain for once. Instead of trying to save villages from monsters, I am the one sending monsters into villages and tearing everything apart. I control a Grim Lord and build up an army of different minions while travelling through procedurally generated areas. The basic idea is pretty simple, but I like the change of perspective. I am not protecting a kingdom or looking for treasure. I am trying to become powerful enough to completely overwhelm the mortal world. The main thing I enjoy is building up the army. I can summon different creatures through portal towers and gradually put together a group that can deal with larger groups of enemies. I also collect souls from the people I defeat, which can then be used to improve my power and strengthen my abilities. This gives the runs a nice feeling of constantly getting stronger. I like starting with a relatively weak army and watching it turn into a huge group that can clear through areas much more easily. The roguelite progression works well with this too. When I eventually die, I can use what I earned to improve my future attempts and learn new summoning spells. That mean…

Abandoned

Game was abandoned. Don't buy.

This game is abandoned, and is not 100% finished. I don't want to rip too hard on what is here, what is finished is pretty decent. Not a 10 by any means. You should probably just put this one back down and walk away, you will never get the full package from this one. In my opinion, the dev should make the game free, it's not cool to keep charging people for this. I paid for the game, and I wouldn't even be upset if this happened, but charging new people isn't cool. Don't support devs that do this.
