What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise Gripper's striking visual style and creative boss designs that offer varied, engaging combat encounters inspired by games like Furi. However, they consistently criticize the simple gameplay mechanics, particularly the boring QTE sections between boss fights and awkward isometric controls that detract from the experience. The game is also marred by technical issues including game-breaking bugs that prevent progression, and while its short length (around 100 minutes) appeals to some, others feel it doesn't justify the price for the limited content and uneven execution despite its
I tried extensively to give this game the benefit of the doubt. It had a really cool idea of doing Furi's concept but with a bike and hyper stylized art style that I was ready to love. The ingredients sound solid, but oh boy it doesn't work. The boss designs are way too simple, boiling down to just the same solutions. The isometric fight sections feel terrible to control, and the game is a buggy mess. I am unable to progress past the Acceptance stage, as the game just does not play a cutscene after the boss is beaten. I have restarted a number of times and verified integrity of my steam files, and have been extremely disappointed that it's consistent enough to prevent me from even getting to the latter half of the game. 0/10, save your money.2 found this helpful
Boss fights all over. A fun ride, action packed game that performs great on Deck! Recommended!2 found this helpful
Gripper, developed and published by Heart Core, is a visually striking and emotionally charged action game that attempts to merge high-speed motorcycle combat with a deeply personal story about loss, guilt, and self-discovery. It tells the tale of a young man named None, who embarks on a desperate journey through a desolate, cyberpunk-inspired world to save his family and uncover the mysteries of his past. Guided and taunted by an artificial intelligence named Zero, he must confront massive biomechanical bosses, each representing an aspect of his emotional turmoil. The game blends kinetic vehicle combat with symbolic storytelling, striving to create something as introspective as it is intense. While its ambition is undeniable and its presentation captivating, the experience is uneven—bold in concept but inconsistent in execution. At its core, Gripper is built around a unique combination of racing and boss-fighting mechanics. Instead of traditional on-foot combat, the player controls None’s futuristic motorcycle, using a grappling hook as the main offensive and defensive tool. The hook can latch onto objects, tear apart enemy components, or hurl debris to expose weak points. Each b…1 found this helpful
