About Hedgewars

Hedgewars is a turn-based strategy, artillery, action and comedy game, featuring the antics of pink hedgehogs with attitude as they battle from the depths of hell to the depths of space.

As commander, it's your job to assemble your crack team of hedgehog soldiers and bring the war to your enemy.

  • Save your favourite gameplay settings in schemes.
  • Customize your team, with over 280 hats/costumes, 32 graves, 13 forts, 100s of flags and 13 unique voice packs.

Its a dead game, but still running, works fine and is a lot of fun with friends. And it has a decent documentation if you want to write mods for it. I made some custom maps for it - just for me an my friends and that was super easy.

Love the weapons and modes, love that's it's free and open source. I played Worms before this came out but now I prefer Hedgewars.

This game is terrific, everyone should play it.

A 2D artillery game like STUG(2023), Worms W.M.D.(2016), Cannon Brawl(2014), Gunbound(2003), Pocket Tanks(2001), Scorched Earth(1991), ect... but not as polished. It needs a smoother UX with better flow so that you don't need to learn a bunch of independent hotkeys specific to that situation. I would recommend the other games in this genre depending on how far back you want to go.
