About Heliotropism

Ever wondered 'what if I was a tree'? Seek no further, Heliotropism is here.

In this rogue-like tree-building game, your goal is to last long enough to bear fruit in a harsh environment. Grow your tree, manage your resources, obtain mutations, mitigate crises and survive cold winters to get to the fourth year.

Key Features

  • Resource management: Grow your tree carefully, spending energy that you generate to place tree parts so that you can generate more. Just beware of winter: no energy and no leaves means that the tree is dead
  • Evolve your tree: As you go through the game, you can collect a plethora of mutations that not only make your tree stronger but change the optimal playstyle to something unique every run.
  • Unpredicted Challenges: Survive different crises every playthrough, from a small breeze to forest fires, these are coming after your tree. Plan ahead and mitigate what you can, survival is not an easy task

To better suit your tree-growing needs, Heliotropism comes with:

  • Monthly updates
  • Customizable UI to fit your preferences.
  • 4 seasons with different effects on your tree
  • 100+ different mutations that buff up your tree in surprising ways
  • 10 Different crises to beat, as well as a challenging winter every year
  • 10 unlocks to enable even more content
  • A vast underground filled with aquifers, rocks and sigils
  • Hundreds of voice lines to keep you entertained while growing

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's relaxing gameplay, funny narration, and unique deck-building mechanics inspired by Slay the Spire but centered on tree growth. However, they note several significant issues including game-crashing bugs on multiple platforms, performance problems when doing well, repetitive commentary, and general imbalance that suggests the game may be abandoned by developers.

The game is technically playable, but there are three bugs that crash the game: 1. if you buy a cheap random mutation 2. if you take a look at your "collection" while playing on windows 3. If you try to start a run while playing on linux Proton. these bugs will add unnecessary difficulty to your gameplay, but there's a lot of interesting things here. two more things: 1. stem tiles get more capacity when thickened by other stem tiles 2. roots gain the most water at the very tip

I'm enjoying it. the narrator is cool at first, then hyper annoying. Luckily you can silence him. it is a totally different type of game that really has to do with getting the right cards to win. very little skill and ridiculously interesting. Found this looking for a flash game that you grew trees and defended from insects. led me to roll of hex as well.

Currently, it's low priority or possibly abandoned by the devs, so it's a little unbalanced and gets laggy if you're doing really well, but it's really cool regardless! My laptop can handle it.

It's like someone took Slay The Spire and made it about trees. But not as good. But still really good. Also the commentary gets repetitive, but is hilarious regardless :D

This game warned me, that the fewer micro-transactions I make, the more crises I will experience.
