How to Say Goodbye

Before playing this game, I thought it would be a simple puzzle game, but I was surprised by how much I actually had to stop and think about some of the puzzles. It is a short but interesting game where you play as a ghost exploring the afterlife and solving grid-based puzzles. Instead of moving the ghost directly, you move rows and columns around the map to line up the ghost with keys, switches, doors, and other objects. I really like how unique this puzzle mechanic is, and it is fun figuring out which tiles move together and how everything connects. The puzzles slowly introduce new mechanics, like buttons, platforms, fans, warp points, and pipe puzzles. They are not super difficult, but they are still fun and make you think without feeling frustrating. The art style is really nice and fits the mood of the game well. I also like how the game talks about grief and loss in a gentle way. Even though it is a short game, the story has a lot of heart and leaves you with a sweet message about finding peace after losing someone you love. It's a new type of puzzle I try, and it's very refershing to solve every each level. It's not too complicated if you're worried about it being too difficult. The story of each characters are very well made too (even though there are still some confusion of the relation between the antagonist and protagonist relationship, also the antagonist's intention doing all those influenting the ghosts stuff), but I love it.

A joyfully illustrated exploration of processing death, grief, and loss. It reads like a children's book yet offers a surprisingly sugarless outlook of radical acceptance. It was a visually, aurally, and emotionally delicious experience. Perhaps I should be reading more children's books for kind wisdoms.

I won't say this is the most affecting game I've ever played, but the narrative has a lot of heart at times and the excellent visuals and relatively engaging puzzles are just a bonus.
