About Hustle Cat

✦ AI summary

Work shifts at a cozy cat cafe while uncovering the supernatural mystery lurking beneath its charming surface and growing closer to your intriguingly secretive coworkers. This narrative adventure blends slice-of-life cafe management with paranormal intrigue and romance options that deepen as you decode the strange secrets your new friends are hiding.

A Cat Cafe With a Little Secret

You are Avery Grey, the newest employee at a popular cat cafe called A Cat's Paw. The coffee's good and the staff is friendly (and kinda cute!) but mysterious. One day, you find a strange book in the basement, with letters you can't quite read...

Meet Your New Best Friends

You'll work hard at A Cat's Paw, but there's still time to get to know your new coworkers! Who's your favorite? The brusque, but devoted cook Mason? Or maybe Reese, the fashion-obsessed waiter who knows more than he says? And there's always your strange-eyed boss, the enigmatic Graves.

I first found Hustle Cat through PressHeartToContinue and Octopimp's playthrough in 2016. Whenever I play through the game again, it's their voices I hear in my head over the brilliantly done soundtrack. (And the "NERD ALERT" whenever Graves appears.) Over the past decade, at least four laptops, and a degree, I keep coming back to this game. For me, of course, it's endlessly nostalgic, but I think even for new players it still has things to offer. The story is charming, the characters are dynamic, and the artwork is breathtaking. Part of me hopes we'll get another game like this from DateNighto, but I think the magic of Hustle Cat probably can't be replicated. Hustle Cat has been a comfort and an escape for me for years, and as someone who has been playing Otome games for over a decade, remains the standard to which I hold other games. Happy tenth anniversary, Hustle Cat! <3

Do you like cats? Do you like story driven, point and click style visual novels? Do you like slice of life stories with a splash of the supernatural? Do you like sickly sweet wholesome dating sims with cute little romantic cg's? Then pick this game up. It's darling and a great way to spend a couple evenings. It has a decently large cast of romanceable options, and sickly sweet, SWF style CG's to go along with each romance route. No NSFW what so ever to be found here. Just sweet romance, and cats. So. Many. Cute. Cats.

6.5/10 wholesome and interesting characters! the story is nice too, but feels kinda unresolved. avery is a fun and refreshing protagonist. finleys route was super cute, masons was nice too. didn't bother with the guys, i skipped through them for graves. his route explained most of the unresolved things, but i personally did not enjoy his romance part at all. also, this game doesn't run perfectly. the way the dialogue and skip function works, is weird sometimes. and the game crashed four times on me, but at least autosave works. still, i recommend getting this on a sale!

This is a cute dating sim with an interesting story and compelling character lines. Sometimes slightly hard to follow, but still fun. The last unlocked romance option was a bit icky (large age and power difference), but it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment. As is mostly usual for these sorts of games, very glad it has a fast forward button for when you're restarting a new game to do a different date path.

Hustle Cat is a story about a cat café that is shrouded in mystery, or that's what the summary will tell you. I thought the game would be a light-hearted, fun time. Unfortunately, its poor storytelling and writing left much to be desired. Art I have nothing bad to say about the art. The few backgrounds that I saw looked nice, and the characters were lovely. Character(s) I'll start this by saying that Avery is a horrible protagonist. Usually when a main character has flaws that make them unlikeable, they at least have some redeeming quality about them that I like. This did not happen. From the little I spent on this (both time and money), I got to know that they are awkward, judgemental, stupid, and refuses to take accountability, which also makes them very immature. Avery has no qualities that make them worthwhile. And I have ended up loving characters who people love to hate. Music The tunes are nice to listen to, but nothing to write home about. Story This is the meat of any Visual Novel. Or it should be. I'm not sure if it's even present here, the plate seems rather empty to me. I feel like the story in this is on par with someone's first…
