The ICARUS.1
Abandoned for decades, crew M.I.A

"I turned the lights down for a really immersive experience"
David Helgason - Unity Technologies founder

"The game brings back feelings of first playing System Shock or Half-Life. I love creepy, empty space ships with history"
Robin Hunicke - Funomena CEO

Abandoned for decades, crew MIA, the ICARUS.1's job was to store mined minerals from the systems outlying planets and perform research duties. Orbiting the local sun to maintain it's solar energy and live up to its namesake, it provided a lucrative business for JME corp.

After contact was lost no rescue attempt was ever made with the stricken station, instead the project was mothballed along with its precious cargo - a cover up some may say.

Many stories about what happened have become lore but Sam isn't focusing on these 'stories', the goal is the cargo and the wealth it will bring.

Short game but with great atmosphere. Play at night withought lights to get the full "alone in the spaceship" vibe!

Better than some of the more recent reviews suggest. Icarus 1 is a walking simulator with some light puzzle/platforming elements. Very light. What it does achieve is absolutely nailing the atmosphere of boarding a derelict ship to find out what went wrong and why. There are a few negatives pointed out in the last reviews that I want to address. 1: Bugs. I encountered none in my playthrough. 2. The voice acting. The choices for the voice acting are explained as you discover the story. It isn't that one voice is badly done and the other isn't. 3. The darkness. Yes, levels are dark. Purposefully so. Frankly, that's what makes the atmosphere great. 4. The length. The five levels are short so that once you know what you are doing, you can run through them in a couple of minutes to pick up any achievements you may have missed. However playing through them the first time, they will take you a good while to explore. Now there are two negatives that people might find: 1. the puzzling is generally trying to find objects needed to progress in dark places. However the objects are never actually in the dark places and a thorough search will usually turn things up. Only once or twice was I l…

Painfully primitive and bugged.

interactable objects do not stand out at all and that leads to mouseovering and clicking through every object in the environment style of gameplay.

It's a pleasant, atmospheric experience. Nothing groundbreaking, but it satisfies a couple hours' playtime. I'd probably recommend their other title, Reprisal, a tad more, but it was cool to see them try a different style! Also the developer is just generally a pleasant fellow from what I recall (think I talked to them in some forums or something, or read some exchanges where they were chill). If you're after a brief lil' scifi adventure I'd say you'd do alright with this.
