About Ilamentia

The goal is simple, activate all souls in a level and escape. However every level revolves around wildly differing mechanics where you must first explore and figure out the level's purpose before then solving its abstract puzzles. You may be tasked with manipulating physical structures or the realm itself to solve logic puzzles, or wander strange subliminal spaces, perhaps deal with phasms or briskly bound through the aether. Delve into 64 mysterious mind-bending levels that will test the limits of every facet of your cognitive faculties.

Ilamentia is a puzzle game that deliberately rejects many of the conventions that define the genre. Developed by caiys and published by caiysware, it presents players with a surreal first-person journey through a collection of strange and often bewildering environments where understanding the rules is just as important as solving the puzzles themselves. Rather than guiding players through tutorials or lengthy explanations, the game encourages experimentation, observation, and curiosity. This design philosophy gives Ilamentia a unique identity, transforming every stage into a mystery waiting to be unraveled. The game's central objective revolves around activating souls scattered throughout each level and ultimately locating the exit. While that premise sounds straightforward, the execution is anything but simple. Across its 64 levels, Ilamentia constantly introduces new concepts and challenges that rarely follow familiar puzzle-game formulas. Each area feels like its own self-contained experiment, often requiring players to discover how the environment functions before they can even begin searching for a solution. This sense of exploration becomes one of the title's defining streng…

One of those games that scratched the itch left by puzzle collection games on sites like Kongregate (I mean this with the highest praise). I suspect it's not for everyone, but the loop of "enter world, work out what's funky about our two (2) mechanics, work out how this is a puzzle, solve the puzzle, move on" was Delightful. If you like puzzle games I'd really reccomend giving it a try.

I've owned Ilamentia since 2016 and have come back to it every couple years till I'm barely finishing it now in 2025, something about this game is so enchanting that it's always stuck in my memory. The puzzles are for the most part fun, unique, and interesting, there are some that will definitely leave your head scratching but always make sense in the end and leave you feeling satisfied and smart for figuring it out. It's definitely not the kind of game you come to for the story, but if you enjoy dream-like atmospheres, figuring out the mechanics of obscure puzzles with minimal hints, and thinking outside the box then Ilamentia is the perfect game for you.
