IN THE DARK is a 2D metroidvania taking inspiration from modern indie hits and old classics. It involves various segments of platforming and combat as you explore deeper into a dark and unknown world full of friends, enemies, and everything in between.
Unlock new abilities that allow you to traverse and explore more of the world. Find hidden upgrades to increase your damage and health. Collect pieces of the map to the view the world in full.
Every time you die, your shadow appears to lend a hand. He'll follow your every input, and is a helpful friend in combat.
Defeat over 10 types of enemies and their accompanying shadows, 5 bosses, and get 3 keys to unlock a gate at the very bottom of the world.
IN THE DARK is about dealing with inner struggle and uncertainty, told in an enigmatic, strange, and mysterious way.

From what I can tell, you are a lone survivor of what appears to be a massacre of your people from another group of dark entities. Although I am only an hour into the game and cannot give you a great deal of information on the cast in its entirety, that I can say is there are plenty of interesting characters, both good and bad that you will come in counter with. Levels/ Platforming The platforming is unique for a couple of stand out reasons. The first is that what appears to be normal stairs to climb are actually just shadows or stairs in the background that you cannot climb. This makes the game interesting because if you make the wrong move you could jump or fall to your death and have to repeat that section of the game. The next unique feature is that each section of the game has you jump, fall or drop down a long chasm. While this may not seem like a big deal it creates a disorienting feeling because you never quite know where you are going to land or if you are going to live or not. Mechanics The standout mechanic to me is that when you die your shadow acts as a sidekick that helps you for a short period of time. I'm a little torn, but am leaning towards a recommend. The ending was what tipped me over and made me glad I finished the game. It has its flaws, but it is overall short and sweet.
