Now it's time to take control of the universe's most advanced interstellar hardware and wage war in the greatest space-sim ever conceived. Important Note Regarding Multiplayer Gaming: Atari doesn't maintain active servers for this game anymore. However, multiplayer gaming on local networks is still possible.
Important Note Regarding Compatibility: Please note, although successful testing was done on modern machines (Windows 7 and 8) to ensure compatibility, this is an older game and certain configurations may not work. Our testing has found, however, that with most machines if you run this game under Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode it works without issue.
- Innovative user-friendly interface - 90% of functions can be programmed where you like - on the joystick or on the keyboard or both!
- Online multiplayer support for up to 8 people. Play DeathMatch, Capture the Flag, and various other unique scenarios.
- The revolutionary Flux™ Graphics Engine: Microsoft Direct3D® compatible - surface effects like rust, decay and wear on the ships, and stunning fire and flare effects. All ships in the game are modeled using the textures and details from the ships created for the CGI movies.
- Physically realistic flight model. All ships use a Newtonian mechanics simulation and move according to the same rules as real spacecraft. This includes a simulation of both linear and angular momentum, inertia and rotational moment of inertia. Ships can use either a free-flight mode or use computer-assisted fly-by-wire flight controls.
- Team-up on the enemy with detachable fighters. Keep them on-board as murderous gun turrets or order them to attack as wingmen.
- Superior non-linear gameplay spanning 16 star systems, interacting with dynamically-created space traffic.
- Command 4 flyable ships and over 30 weapons and ship accessories that can be used in near-infinite combinations.
- Get to know the locals. Examples include taxicab ships, freighters, space patrols, and pirates.
- Watch the space opera unfold through a rich storyline in four acts.

Well, I WAS interested in trying this unique-looking space sim, but it doesn't have a single-player campaign included in this version for some insane reason. WTF.1 found this helpful
A hidden gem of spacesims. If it would be more popular, newton-based space physics would be the norm
This is a fantastic classic space game. the story is captivating and you will not regret the purchase, It's hard but once you get in you will be amassed at how well they did it back in the day.
This game still rocks. This has silky smooth handeling, and the best newtonian physics i have ever experienced in a space sim. this works fine with modern hotas as my vkb hotas, you just need the mod for simple ini file changes, or the patience to edit the ini yourself. all mods are just done moving the zip file to the game mod folder, no complex crap. No cd mod is also avalible. Loved this game when it was released, and it still holds up...
I-War comes from a different time and stands proud next to Freelancer in my heart in terms of the fun I had. All my playtime comes from the CD version: Steam was just the platform I picked it up again "just in case" in a sale (and so I never forgot!). I gather though that Steam's version has some issues - so might not be the best to grab (just to get the time to write this review I was sat on the "insert CD" screen, for example, so there's that). Anyway - if you enjoy narrative space sim games that give you freedom enough that while you have a story to follow, you *also* absolutely will not be babysat as it pats you on the backside and says "have at it, kid"? You'll like I-War is where it's at. Sure, visually speaking this won't blow you away, but it has the visual charm of early noughties cinematics and style. Where I came to fall in love is that over a decade after release on a re-play I found the modding community - where you can absolutely improve things with things like Custom Jafs (tired of him talking? Also want him in a *Superfrieghter* with tons of capacity while you *YARR* your way around spacelanes? Get this!) and more. It's these kinds of things that made me fall in …
Loved this game to death. From the sound track to the gameplay. Wish someone would take the ideas of this game and make a sequel expanding on everything that happened and can happen.
