*There has been a patch since my review that will likely invalidate it. However I haven't had time to go through and try the game again. I will still leave this here for comparison to the current game and see what's changed and what still needs polish/refinement* Only reason I currently recommend the game is because I'm a sucker for monster MC and can see some potential here. However, that's all it has going for it, and it barely even does that, let's break down what the game has. Pros: Reincarnation system- unique from other rpgs I've played, offers the promise of different playstyles and advancement. Progressive skill system- the more you use a thing, the more proficient you get at it (in this case you just get better "equips" that fill a slot related to skills in name only. Basically use things to acquire gear) and that's about it for pros. Cons: (Oh boy, where do I start?) Choose your flavor of damage- elements and reincarnated form mean nothing in this game, physical and magical damage seems largely the same the entire game, nothing is weak or strong to anything. Only exception I found is Behemoth seemed to have perfect physical defense and required magic to beat, or ail…6 found this helpful
RPG Maker strikes again! "Isekai: Reincarnation in a New World" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This deviates slightly from the crap anime fantasy fa…4 found this helpful
at the current moment, i'm only halfway through the tutorial, and i just felt the need to state that the hunger system makes it extremely difficult to get by. i'm literally stuck going in a circle between a statue and a monster (which i'm one hitting btw), begging whatever gods may or may not exist to give me a piece of raw meat. i'd say that besides that, the game is amazing, except the constant grind for food while nearly dead of starvation stop me from being able to actually pay attention to much else. i might edit this once i get to a later point in the game. edit: i apparently had really bad rng.3 found this helpful
It is nice so far, cons: 1. the squares are a bit big for entities. 2. some times if you let go your arrow key you'll keep going for a square or two. 3. you can't pick your animal at the beginning. 4. some food you can't get anything from it, even hunger. 5. normal attacks (bitting, scratching, pecking) are magic for some reason. 6. you start with a lot of heath. pros: 1. almost DARK SOULS DIFFICULTY1!! 2. old timey feel. 3. easy to navigate interface. 4. can pick up and play. 5. exploration, big map. p.s. gonna need to update this after playing more hours.1 found this helpful
For its price, this game delivers the basic experience that it promises; you start out incredibly weak (the early game is rough) and eventually become absurdly overpowered. Do note the price and its implications, though. The game has everything it promises, but little else; the plot is minimal, and while it does decent things with the mechanics it's not amazingly deep. The idea here is to capture the mechanical feeling of those "reincarnated as a monster" isekai stories where the character starts out weak and evolves into something outrageously powerful; the game does that well enough to be worth a few afternoons' worth of entertainment if that's what you're looking for, but don't expect deep stories or the like. Also, there are a few minor bugs and grammar / spelling issues. Nothing gamebreaking or anything, but it's worth mentioning.
this game is fun and is certainly a diamond in the rough it introduces concepts from various games that are considered tropes for isekai manga learning upgrades and powers as you go is also a very nice feature the story is promising though i have not progressed very far all in all some polish is all that is needed at this point
