Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale is a 1.2 million—million!—word interactive comedy of manners by Kreg Segall. It's a standalone sequel to Tally Ho inspired by P.G. Wodehouse, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination. It won three 2020 XYZZY Awards for interactive fiction, winning Best Writing, Best Setting, and Best NPCs.
As the close relation of an earl, you've managed to join the once-rather-elite Noble Gases just as you find yourself embroiled in dreadful scandal. But surely your clever new servant ought to be able to solve this knotty problem with both elegance and unruffled grace!*

Lead your new social club through a world of pranks, debts, close shaves, passions, rivalries, and untold heights of splendor and absurdity amongst the cream of society. Will you lean into your shocking reputation, fight hard to redeem yourself in the eyes of the fickle public, or just relax with a cocktail by the fire? What is most important to you: your own comfort, loyalty to your friends, or the expectations of your family? Navigate the joys and troubles of membership in your new club: planning parties, gaining new members, taking down rivals…or winning them over as friends.
But it's not all shenanigans and hijinks—there's also hanky-panky. Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 521: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (10/10) [i]Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale[/i] is, respectfully, one of the stupidest titles I've ever read in my life. Now, hold on a minute with the pitchforks. When I say "stupidest," I mean whimsical. Jolly (literally!). Infuriating. Dazzling. Shocking. Scandalous. Jaw-dropping. Lyrical. Hilarious. In short, incredible. I don't quite know how to begin this review or what else to say because I've binged this whole title and am writing this review at midnight, seven hours before my final, but I suppose I'll start with the plot. You play as a close relative of an earl as you join a (depending on who you ask) illustrious club called the Noble Gases. You are also trying to rehabilitate your reputation after a dreadful scandal. And, you, well, do [i]stuff[/i]. Yes, you read that right. You, a foolhardy, well-meaning noble do [i]stuff[/i]. I say this because [i]Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale[/i] is less of a typical game with a beginning, middle, and end, and reads more as a collection of vignettes about a noble’s life. I *really* enjoyed this, maybe even more than Tally Ho. The romance leaves a little something to be desired--more of Fitz berating me in a broom closet, please!!--but honestly, the main plot is so fun that I got over it1 found this helpful

Jolly Good is a wonderful and funny follow up to Tally Ho. Fitzie is such a great character, and the player character has really distinct and fun options. I'm very excited for the next game in the series!
If you have seen my Tally Ho review, you will already know some points of this one as a bunch of stuff stayed the same between the two games. Though it was one of the ROs / LIs from Jolly Good that made me decide to play the series, specifically. More on that later in the spoilered part. To quickly go over the pros and cons and neutrals! PROS Same as Tally Ho, the game have a vibrant writing style and characters that are so alive and interesting. This game also has a lot more branching, so for people who replay with different MCs it must be a treat (I'm a "one canon playthrough kind of player so this doesn't affect me personally though). This game has a checkpoint system like Tally Ho, but also adds DLCs to make your life easier (one with cheats and one to get help with achievements). NEUTRALS The second person narrative, still. Again, this is a matter of taste - to me it's a con. But I'm mentionning it specifically because the second person writing is weirdly implemented in the narrative this time around (you'll understand on the very first pages), so it may be more bothersome for those who don't like it, while others will still see it the same.
