a matching game where balls have weight, so they manipulate paired scales on the bottom. the goal is to make horizontal trios, but other connected balls of the same color will also disappear and cascades can also happen. used to be paid, now free but that doesn't mean it's recommendable. no tutorial or any explanation, just endless/random 'original' and 'puzzle' modes that are essentially the same, except the latter starts with a semi-filled board. there's also local multiplayer. at first I thought the game was simply broken but turns out it's keyboard-only. the mouse only does things in the menu/ui and the scroll wheel barely functions in the shop where you buy various ball power-ups (if you can, the game is really stingy with money). left-right arrows to move and down to drop a ball, plus space to change music. no other keys for reset or anything but mid-level progress can be saved, pretty much the only positive thing. basic graphics, okay music, annoying sfx, no volume settings, only on/off toggles. resolutions and windowed mode only via the unity launcher on startup. alt+enter works and the window is resizable but messing with it won't restore full screen resolution, gotta r…7 found this helpful
"jwing - the next puzzle game" is a convoluted puzzle game, and as the developers suggest, you can see this as a kind of hybrid of Tetris, Puzzle Bobble, and something else I guess. You've got match-3 mechanics, clearing mechanics, and a weird mechanic where the "weight" number on each ball moves the platforms they're dropped on up and down. This convoluted mess doesn't "work" for the intended purpose... it's unengaging and pointless. With Tetris or Puzzle Bobble it's quick and easy to see what you have to do, the gameplay itself isn't a barrier. You get engaged quickly... here, it's not even worth trying to work out how to play it right. As such, it was a dismal failure, as the player counts show. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs to pretend they're mobile phones or Commodore 64s. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes que…2 found this helpful
Before I played jwing - the next puzzle game, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
1 found this helpful
This game is so odd and unique, I love it. I couldn't tell you why, but I can't seem to stop playing it. This was probably a passion project from some random person out there with an odd new idea, which in my opinion is just the cherry on top. No idea exactly how to play, however, it is oddly fun. Thank you.
