It looks like the game's Unity engine wasn't well optimized and is laggy; it runs at low fps, which makes my laptop's fans overwork and makes playing this game agonizing. The story and world of this game are dystopian; there are two playable characters, and you're playing a little girl and her grandpa. It looks like there is Orwellian political and social commentary about some hot topics like oppression, authoritarian government that closely watches the citizens, propaganda, discrimination, war, artificial intelligence, and religious zealotry, but I also felt like I just threw myself in the middle of a story that is trying to slowly develop. until the end of the game, I didn't understand who these people were, what they were going through in this post-apocalyptic world, or what their purpose was in their dismal situation. If I speak and complain in a technical sense about this game, an unoptimized slow engine, clunky controls, long and frequent loading screens, disorienting and terrible pre-set camera angles, and tracking issues also make this game unplayable, frustrating, and boring for me.11 found this helpful
I'd give this a 2/5. I was hoping for a classic point-and-click adventure, but this kinda misses the beat somewhat. The story is short, confusing and disjointed. Perhaps something was lost in translation? And most of it seems to play through on its own with just a few points in the game when your character needs to solve a small puzzle or find an object. The chapter load times seemed to take ages - perhaps that's just my 10-year-old PC, but I don't think so. Some of the chapter loading times seemed longer than the game-play in the chapter itself.8 found this helpful
Visually it's a hot mess, everything is shiny metal and I can't make head or tails what to look at. Every character has overactive idle and dialog animation, waving all the time like in panic and since camera is fixed to character, the whole screen jitters and the experience is somewhat nauseating. Voice acting and animations as a whole are of high quality, I see this area was very polished. With gamepad the navigation becomes fast disorienting since game has multiple fixed camera angles per screen. So you can run to another screen and lost your location momentarily. I understand that the developers had a great story in mind but failed to deliver it us the audience. It's like there's a big story but the author could only use small words.6 found this helpful
KAPIA, developed and published by 2 FOR 2, is a point-and-click adventure game that blends narrative depth with a striking visual style, offering players a journey through a post-apocalyptic world unlike many others. Set within a vast, self-contained dome, the game follows Stefan, a seasoned war veteran, and his curious granddaughter Reny, as they navigate the remnants of human civilization and uncover the hidden stories that shaped their society. Since its release in January 2022, the game has been praised for its compelling storytelling, richly imagined world, and inventive approach to traditional adventure mechanics. The world of KAPIA stands out thanks to its unique visual design. The game fuses elements of retro-futurism, steampunk, and subtle cyberpunk influences, creating environments that are both familiar and imaginative. Players explore detailed interiors and exteriors filled with machinery, industrial architecture, and lived-in spaces that convey the history and culture of the dome’s inhabitants. Character models are expressive, effectively conveying personality and emotion, while environmental details encourage careful observation and exploration. Lighting and color ch…3 found this helpful
While I can't say that Kapia is a good game, it has enough going for it that I'm so-so about it. There are too few reviews for me to give it a thumbs down, since that would impact the review score more than I think it deserves. This game is a good example of a game development project needing a bigger budget to properly achieve its vision. The lack of polish is devastating. Kapia is painful to play and even more aggravating to look at. The camera moves in this thing are monstrous, with disorienting and sickening movements. Excessive bloom effects cast a haze over most of the screen. The audio mix suffers from drastic differences in volume between voice lines, even from the same character in the same scene. Voice performances were clearly captured on a wide variety of microphones, with some mics being of noticeably low quality. I suspect mostly amateurs were brought on to do voice acting in Kapia, but some of the voices were enjoyable. It took me a bit to get used to Stefan's forced gruffness, recorded with a mic of questionable quality, but I grew to enjoy his cantankerous attitude. Reny had my favorite voice actress, with a good quality microphone and childlik…
