King 'n Knight

This game is such a hidden couch co-op gem, if you want a hard fun couch experience, this is it.

Frustrating, but very rewarding, Coop souls like platformer.

This game was an absolute brutal experience. However, I wouldn't change a thing about it. After finally beating it, I realized how much I improved at the earlier levels. This game is hard and punishing, but it is a game you can get good at. There are enough secret chests to let you have as many attempts as you need, but not enough to throw away lives. Each attempt can be THE attempt, or it can be a missed jump into the abyss. I played this with 2 others, which I'd say is about the best way to play. The bosses were all interesting and the level design was varied enough that I have a very personal relationship with each segment of every level. That relationship is an extremely unhealthy one, but it is one I sickeningly seek. I believe this game achieved exactly what it was going for, and that fills a piece of my heart that has been emptied by games that hold your hand. There is no hand holding, just wringing your palms together. If this game charged a quarter per play like the old day arcade games, I'd have spent way more than the actual purchase price. For the money I spent, and the time I'll never get back (18 hours to beat), it was all worth it.

If you're considering this game, ask yourself if you would sit and play classic Ghouls n' Ghosts for hours. The gameplay of this game is intentionally identical to that old arcade game. Your skill from Ghouls n' Ghosts would also translate fairly well to King n' Knight. And of course, the game has many homages to Gn'G, if the name Kn'K wasn't an obvious enough reference. I'm glad there's a demo, because it will prepare you very well for if you will like this game or not. The Demo just includes the first few stages, and has no significant differences that I could find to the full game. If you play the Demo and find that the style is frustrating, you'll know it's not for you. I sought this game for its multiplayer, and it delivered on it exactly as it needed to. The only real problem is that this game is definitely not for everyone, so of course you will find some difficulty getting a party of four. Still, an entirely co op Gn'G was something that absolutely needed to exist in the world, and I'm extremely happy that Kn'K delivered on it.
