"Kingdom of the Dead" is pitched as an old-school boomer shooter... okay. Well, we already have DooM and Quake, so a "me too" made several decades later is a questionable business model. Especially one that doesn't do anything that the original FPS games don't do better despite being so much older. This is a kind of supernatural shooter with one major gimmick... the game assets are textured to look like the scribbling of a 14 year old art student. Okay then. Hand drawn artwork styles can work... take a look at Bendy and the Ink Machine... but Bendy succeeded because of the interesting gameplay and plot, not because of the art style. I guess the best way to describe this is as a game that was designed by making a list of the features a first person shooter should have, and assembling all those components, without actually understanding what makes FPS gaming interesting. This is incredibly boring to play... the action is slow paced (weird for a boomer shooter, especially considering how adrenaline filled DooM used to be). I never thought I'd call an FPS game boring, but here we are. The AI is, frankly, has the "A" but not the "I". It's artificial stupid. Enemies causing y…

I think this game is kind of the definition of mid, its overall not a bad game, but like it does nothing spectacular, it's just a doom clone but with nothing that made that game good. 5/10

Gameplay Review: Beautiful artstyle and decent gameplay with good basics but not much complexity. Audio design is crisp and satisfying but also feels off at points with a lack of impact overall. It starts very easy and ramps up a bit in difficulty towards the end (normal or 2 star difficulty for my first playthrough) but nothing major in terms of difficulty spikes. Story gives decent basic motivation to continue with text based Dialogue which leads you to investigate many unique places. I took my time playing through the game and restarted the first level a few times to try and play it on my steam deck or make ultrawide work but under normal circumstances it's about 2 to 4 hours long depending on playstyle. Performance Review: PC: Performance was all over the place and i was jumping between 60 and 500fps in the first level depending on which direction i lwas looking or if my view was obstructed. Later levels seemed more stable but i was still noticing inconsistent framerates and it can be quite jarring at times. It might be a Linux or Proton version problem but due to it stabilizing to a acceptable state after the first level i continued playing through the game. Steam Deck: I…
