this was very special to me. [spoiler]i played on itch.io first and there was a bonus section at the end after reading through the past, present, and future. i replayed on steam immediately after but, for some reason, those bonus stories were not available. if you liked this game, go read through it again on itch.io[/spoiler]

Ko ima ni ari is a very small visual novel, but I found the subject matter much more thoughtful than I expected. The story focuses on a person slowly losing their sight and looks at the relationship between the past, present and future. I liked that the game does not need a huge world or complicated mechanics to make its central idea feel personal. The gameplay is deliberately minimal. I mainly move through text and images, following the story and paying attention to the details that gradually give the situation more meaning. There are no elaborate systems competing for my attention, which I think is the right decision here. The lack of distractions makes the writing and presentation much more important. The way the story can be read in a more linear or less straightforward way is interesting too. I enjoyed piecing things together and thinking about how the different moments connect. Because the game is short, individual details can carry more weight than they normally would in a much longer visual novel. The pixel art presentation and music are probably my favorite parts.
