About Kong: Survivor Instinct

A sudden Titan attack prompts massive evacuation efforts-but not everyone makes it to safety before the devastation ensues. Caught in the crossfire between battling monsters, many residents become trapped in the collapsing city—your only daughter among them!

Kong: Survivor Instinct is a 2.5D action-adventure game that combines realistic platforming, challenging combat, and metroidvania-style exploration during a thrilling quest of survival worthy of the Monsterverse franchise.

TRUE MONSTERVERSE ADVENTURE
Influence the Titans with Monarch tech and use their enormous strength to your advantage as you navigate a treacherous maze of collapsing buildings, toxic leaks, and raging fires. Scavenge for resources, weapons, and tools to solve environmental puzzles and defend yourself against both human and monster enemies.

FACE THE LEGENDARY KONG
Explore and survive as you encounter Kong in all his majestic glory, face the formidable Abaddon, and confront other new and returning superspecies and Titans! Whether you scavenge through half-destroyed buildings or fight off mercenaries, these enormous monsters are nearby, directly or indirectly impacting your gameplay. Though the Titans pose a lethal threat, you can - and must - influence their behavior with the ORCA Σ, a new prototype inspired by Monarch’s technology.

ALAN JONAH RETURNS
Discover an official Monsterverse story set shortly after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. Stand your ground against the Hyenas, a mercenary group led by Alan Jonah. Reemerging after the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the former eco-terrorist leader returns in Kong: Kong: Survivor Instinct with a new villainous scheme.

A FATHER’S MISSION TO RESCUE HIS DAUGHTER
Take on the role of David, an oil rig worker braving a crumbling city to find your only child, Stacy. Make your way through the districts while encountering fellow survivors taking shelter among the rubble, mourning their loved ones or on the verge of giving up hope. Feel the awe-inspiring terror Titans bring upon a city through the eyes of a father desperate to find his daughter!

Visually, the game looks quite nice for an indie title, and the Titan backdrop actually hit the right spot for me. However, that doesn't help much when the actual gameplay feels incredibly clunky. The controls are extremely stiff, turning the high-stakes Titan chase sequences into a major source of frustration—deaths rarely feel like your own fault, but rather the result of sluggish mechanics. On top of that, combat against human enemies is bland and repetitive. Even exploration gets annoying when you have to perform an action two or three times just for the game to register that a blocked wall is now open. The game also fails to find its identity. It uses the MonsterVerse branding to target an action audience but completely fails to deliver. At the same time, a warning screen at the start prepares you for a heavy story about natural disasters and family loss, but the narrative never lands as a drama or a thriller. No recommendation this time; despite the neat visual backdrop, these 5 hours feel more like a chore than entertainment.

Looks good. Story is mediocre. (I'm being generous here) Exploration is okay. Puzzles are easy. Combat is a source for frustration. (until you discover bullets appear out of thin air when needed) Titan combat would be fun to watch if you weren't too busy pixel jumping to get out of the way. Too short. It has spiders. Watching a full playthrough on YT is more fun.

This game surprised me. It is fantastic! I really enjoyed playing every part of this game. The graphics is surprisingly well done; I didn't expect this quality of the graphics because of the type of the game, which is a 2D platform. I really enjoy the cinematics interacting with the main character; they are so well merged with the game. Also, the mechanics are great. Overall, I think this game is a master piece. I strongly encouraged the developers to keep designing games like this one.
