Langrisser I & II

I used to play Langrisser 1 a lot when I was little, but it was known as Warsong in the US on Sega Genesis. This is a different experience than the Sega Cartridge, and much more forgiving. The gameplay is just the right level of challenging, most of the time, with it skewing more towards easier than harder. That could just be me, though. There's over a dozen different endings between the two games to go for, and the story is dramatic and has that 80s and 90s fantasy distinct style. Highly recommend.

Enjoyable unit tactics game. I never played these older games and I am glad they are available for me to try polished up now. Music is good, gameplay is fun, Japanese voice acting is pretty good.

Very ugly remake, original version look much better. Also the difficulty has been reduced to a rediculous level here, feels like a brainless mobile game now. Avoid. But definitely find and play the mega drive and snes versions.

A great fire-emblem like. Simple controls but is very well done. A lot of endings that are wilds in both games.

The demo did NOT work. But I decided to buy the full game. I remember the demo working around 2020 when I played it. It's strange because I did not enjoy the game back then. I was playing the same game on mobile, and I just felt weird. Anyway, I bought the game with the intention of getting a refund if I found it that bad. Actually, I like it. I haven't played the original Langrissers, but play Shining Force and Tactics Ogre etc. I am surprised that I like this game. I haven't tried it with the 16 bit graphics, but now i'm interested to see how different it is. This game really does work out well for the 21st century. I did actually lose a few times which is weird, but owing to not knowing what i'm doing. At the moment, I feel that when I complete it, Langrisser 1 at the moment, will I continue to the harder mode or will I continue to Langrisser 2? It's really fun and feels like the price and remake is worth it enough for just one of them. So, it's a good deal so far. I'll update my review in a couple of weeks. My PC is from the stone age too, and this game runs fast.

And that’s where the mixed feelings begin. On one hand, everything is noticeably easier now. There’s no longer that constant pressure where a single mistake can cost you the entire run. The economy doesn’t suffocate you anymore, the RNG feels far less brutal, and overall the game is much more forgiving. It’s no longer that hardcore experience where you’re constantly on the edge of losing everything. But on the other hand… you start remembering how it used to be. Warsong on Sega was a true test of patience. No saves. None at all. Any small thing could wipe out hours of progress: one lucky critical hit from an archer — and your entire strategy collapses. Accidentally bumped the power adapter — start over. Your cat ran by and pulled the cable — start over. The lights flickered — you already know. And there you go again, from the very beginning, stubbornly trying one more time because you just couldn’t quit. And there was a certain magic in that. Harsh, unfair, but incredibly addictive. The 2020 version is clearly not about that anymore. It’s more of a comfortable nostalgic journey: saves, rebalanced systems, quality-of-life improvements — everything is there. For new pl…
